  • Filling a 4:3 Screen

    Hey everyone, quick question:
    I have a Carl's 10.5w x 8h enclosure, a 1080Darbee projector mounted the correct distance from the screen, and FSX2018.

It seems like no matter what I do, I have a 8" black strip on the top of the screen. I have the projector set to 4:3, and tech support from Foresight had me set my laptop to a 4:3 resolution, but the blank space is still there. I even lowered my projector mount to see if it the top of the enclosure was blocking the throw, but no dice. Image shifting just cuts off more of the top of the image rather than filling the blank space with the image. I can tilt the projector upward to fill the top of the screen and square it up by keystoning, but then I have a black border all the way around the image. I'm at a loss.

Am I missing a way to fill the space, or should I just live with it? Thanks for any info!!

How far is your projector from the screen? According to Carl's specs for your enclosure should have 121.33 x 91 inches of viewable screen. Projector central calculator indicates you should mount the front of the projector 6' 9" from screen to get a 121x91 display image. The calculator also indicates the 1080Darbee will have 15 inches of drop you'll need to account for.

I have same projector and struggled for long time getting the projector to fill my screen. Turns out I never mounted my projector high enough. Once I mounted projector to correct hieght I filled my screen.

check out project central for the calculations. I have the same projector and it has a very significant drop distance (height distance between the lens and the top of the image it projects, which grows as the projected image gets larger). I flush mounted my projector to the ceiling to maximize height.

Thanks, everyone, for the replies. I have the lens 6'9" from the screen. The top of the enclosure is 100", but my ceiling is 120". I read about the 15" vertical offset before mounting it the first time, but it was still mounted too high to throw the image under the enclosure (could see the shadow of the top of the enclosure on the top of the screen. I mounted it about 8" lower the second time, but it sounds like I may have overcorrected, and now it's too low to fill the top of the screen. Does this sound right to anyone? Thanks!!

Is it just the foresight software that does not fill the screen? Does your desk top and other apps fill the screen or is it with all applications? Reason I ask is my dest top fills my screen and so does TGC but when inload my SkyTrak range my screen is slightly shrunk.

Nothing on my laptop fills the screen. It has a perfect bottom/left/right border, just about 8" of blank at the top.
