Long time lurker on this site. I guess this is version 2 of my sim room. Originally had a Net Return Home series net up so that I could hit balls sideways into the net but see the flight on the regular home theater screen. Worked great for a year, but eventually wanted to swing "at" my target. My room size is 13' 6" deep, 15' 6" wide and 10' 6" high.
Took down the net (looking to sell it now). Secured Carl's Premium 7x7 screen and built a custom EMT cage that fits exactly in the wall cutout of the media room (12 inches deep, 7"6" x 7'6" High and wide). Already had CCE mat that I cut to 3x4 to not take up too much space. My projector is Epson home cinema 1440 which throws 4400 lumens. I was able to increase screen size as much as possible for the wall cutout area which greatly increase my previous viewing screen size (running at 4:3). Some dead area at the bottom, but to lower pic to the floor would cause my shadow to show in the screen which I don't want (and I don't want to move projector). Walls are a dark brown so it creates a really good dark lighting in the room, but not great for pics (sorry). Unlike many, I prefer to hit pretty close to my screen (6 1/2 feet) as I find it minimizes the margin for error on mishits and is actually more immersive.
My contribution is offering a few sim room hacks in my search for automation and efficiency:
1. CCE mat sliding on carpet. If you've ever used one of those clear plastic office mats that go under desk chairs with wheels to allow them to slide on carpet, I cut my CCE mat to lay on top of it and used double sided tape to stick CCE to desk chair mat I picked up at office depot. Problem solved. Hitting mat is stable and doesn't move at all.
2. Ability to move Skytrak easily. I bought this (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y3MKC7C/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_l6P6Cb99TCP8P) and screwed the skytrak on it. Now, I can just use my club to gently slide the skytrak from side to side depending on whether I want to hit off tee or off the mat (agree with everyone that CCE is a bit punishing but haven't decided to change yet). See pic.
3. Rebound and sound off screen. Carl's Premium screen is outstanding, but I wanted to ensure no rebounds and minimal impact sound. Behind my screen are (two) 3 inch memory foam mattress toppers (6 inches total). They are against the wall behind the screen secured with bungees and about and inch away from the screen itself (moving blanket between). Sound is amazing muffled and every shot just falls to floor in front.
Pics below. I have a CCE ball tray on it's way so I can rake balls onto mat easily.
