  • Lighting placement for swing recording

    Hey folks

im looking to do some swing recording. I have a skytrak and a projector. I also have high FPS cameras for the dtl and face on views. The dtl picks up light from the screen but the face on file very dark.

any suggestions on what lights to buy and where to place them so as to not mess up the skytrak? I’m happy to do recessed lighting g or open to other solution s

    thank you in advance

I have 4 extra lights directly overhead my hitting area (recessed) to provide lighting for the IDS3140 cameras I have.

Ron, I am thinking in hanging mine from the ceiling and was just starting to think about how I would go about things. Any tips on what has been successful for you in terms of mounting them ?

I used 6 ft long 1/2" c-channel aluminum from Home Depot, hung by two light fixture chains from ceiling, and drilled holes in the aluminum and used these fittings to attach the Neewer lights: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CORF6LY

For high frame rate cameras, I do suggest staying away from AC current LED lights. As referenced above, many light sources (fluorescent, LED, etc.) via AC current can cause flicker with high fps cameras. I am living that problem right now - I installed roughly 15 Juno LED lights (roughly 1,000 lumens each). When playing video back, I can often have severe flickering. I've matched the frequency to my fps on the camera (60 hertz, 120 hertz, 180 hertz, etc) but flicker is still there. If you use LED panels which run off of DC current (Neewer, or other photography lights which can run off of batteries or a power 'brick'), the flickering problem goes away. However, IMHO those LED panels are not ideal to mount and look 'polished' in your house - definitely makes your SIM room look a bit like a photography studio. I have one Neewer to help reduce flicker, but hate the look of it in the room. I've read on some videography forums that metal halide bulbs are great to avoid any flicker as the filament never cools down enough to actually flicker, but they are very pricey! Hope this helps!
