  • New Sim Build, looking for some advice.

I started my Sim build about a week ago and I am not where close to being finished, but I am past the part on my expertise.
I have the enclosure and screen up, ball return built along with platform. I just ordered turf last night, so I will cover that early next week.
Here is a picture of what I have done so far.
Now I am at the part of some items I am not sure about.
    1. Projector - I have heard this is a good one to get: Optoma EH200ST https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...KIKX0DER&psc=1
What is your opinion? I like that I don't have to mount this one at a certain distance since it has the zoom. I have plenty of space for the projector, so I am not sure if I need a short throw our not, but then I have read that a projector that is not a short throw needs to be about 20' away, so I guess I do need a short throw...? Any help on the projector is much appreciated. I dont want to spend an arm and a leg and don't think I will ever achieve 4K or anything like that. Let me know what you think.
    2. Computer - Need help here, need to buy one dedicated for the SIM. Not sure where to start. I don't want to be cheap and have graphic issues, but I don't want to go crazy on the price either, would like to stay under 1K if possible.
I am going to purchase the Skytrak hardware this week.
I am guessing I need to get internet ran to my garage as well, correct?

I am sorry, I am sure most of this is a bit elementary for most, but I am a bit confused and would love to get some advice from someone who has already done it.
Thank you in advance and I appreciate your time.

Welcome to the forum! I am very new this as well and just learning like you, there is a ton of great info on here.

I have a similar setup as you but mine is 9x9, which gives us an unconventional square screen. It's doable for a projector but you need a 1:1 aspect ratio. That projector you have will work it seems, go to https://www.projectorcentral.com/Opt...ulator-pro.htm and it will show you what you need to do. I have the Optoma GT1080Darbee, I just got it and need to play around with it to see if I like it enough to keep it.

I'm a total newbie with all this so learning as I go along. I don't think you need internet hardwired to your garage with skytrak if you have wifi but I'm not positive. What simulator software are you going to run?

Good luck and keep asking questions in here, people are more than happy to help it seems.

Not a big thing but something to look at

that large fluorescent light above your hitting area
        1) could be in the way of your swing
        2) will wash out your projection

I had a small 3 footer behind my hitting area
and when it was on the screen image was very washed out and dull

i put a small spot light low on the wall and aimed the light directly over the hitting area , and the picture is much improved now that the florescent is turned off when hitting

Panman, thank you for the reply and the information. I haven't even gotten to the software side of it yet, so I have no idea but open to suggestions.

Tony, thank you as well. I am actually really lucky and the ceilings in my garage are 10', so clearance is no issues with the light. That light is LED and dims. My plan is the remove the garage door opener, move the LED light over to the right, and add one or two recessed can lights above the hitting area. I will post a picture when I am finishes if it works well.

Thank you both for the reply's.

          Chris

Should I save the $200 dollars and buy the projector you have?
Thoughts on which projector is better for a SIM?

Cans are great just put spots down n them
              Flood lights are the enemy
unless your projector has mega lumins
