Heat without major install

My shed is 10 x 17 x10
and drafty as hell as it’s stick built by amateurs captenters
function yes perfect not by a long shot

I thought this might help others in cold climates and unheated space

i grabbed a small ryobie propane gas blast heater from Home Depot and a small mister buddy propane gas heater
both utilize the 1 lb propane tanks sold at homedepot for 2.00 a piece and I generally get 2 session out of a tank in each unit
so it’s not expensive

i run the blast heater for 15 minutes or so to take the chill out
and then the mr buddy to maintain a nice temp

i also run a small 6 inch fan to circulate the warm air

about 2.00 per hitting session
4 .00 if I spend a long time
easy install
ps I was using small electric heaters but the we’re expensive to run and occasional would pop the breaker

I hope it's really drafty. Unvented gas heaters scare me.

Be smart and grab a carbon monoxide detector. I got very lucky that I had one in place last winter while using a mr heater in the garage.
$20 and could save your life.

Well I’ve installed the carbon monoxide detector a week ago

and with both heaters on high for a few minutes then one on low
its great even on Coolde days

i get between 2 and 4 sessions between fuel changes depending on my time out there

the small electric maintains 40 or so at night so

over all a working situation

I use one of these in my garage and work shop. They are easy to wire and they will put out some serious heat. I’m my simulator I am switching to a split unit for heat and AC. A small split unit will run $500-$1000 but the electricity draw is really small for the heating as it is just a heat pump.

I'm not sure the problem with those propane heaters in an enclosed space is carbon monoxide but it using up all of the available oxygen. I'd do a bit of research before I felt safe with a CO detector. Carbon monoxide poisoning is different than asphyxiating yourself. I'm certainly not a doctor but I'd check it out. I use a propane heater in the attached garage to get it up to temp, but leave the door to the house open, then an electric one to keep the temps up.

There’s no way in this space I’m going to use up all the oxygen
it’s not sealed all that well

im sure that’s a risk you might run in a well sealed well insulated space
but might is the operative word

years ago when I lived in Pennsylvania money was tight
we had bought our first home and it had electric baseboard heat electric bills were sky high
couldnt afford it

so we started using the coal stove in the finished basement ( bi level)
and one of those kerosene heaters on the top floor
both ran most of the time we were in the house
the coal stove ran 24 7

I know that there’s always a risk
but it’s minimal
