  • Uneekor or Skytrak? Starting my garage take over

    Gents,

I've finally convinced the wife to let me turn the garage into a sim room. There's just one condition, which is that she needs to be able to pull the car in during the winter months at night. No big deal. The garage is a 20x20 with 11 ft ceilings. However, there's a steel beam that comes down through the center to make it 9'8", which will limit my screen height. I've already got a company coming out in 2 weeks to replace the garage door, lift the tracks from 8' to 10', and put in a Liftmaster 8500. I'm $3k in before I even get started.

I feel like I've got a pretty good plan, but I'm torn on a few things. Wondering if I can have some opinions from the guys who have been through this. Once this thing is wrapped up, I'll be sure to pay it forward.

Screen: Carl's premium 9x16 (16:9) or 8.5x13 (16:10)? I don't want to go any wider than 16' because of storage reasons.
Projector: Haven't decided yet, but will figure it out once I decide on a screen size and ratio. I've seen a lot of Optoma and BenQ on here.
Turf: I've got a good friend who is the Synlawn rep and she is hooking me up with some remnants that will fill the entire floor. Precision Putt 15x20 and a True Srike 12x6 for hitting area
-I was going to get the fiberbuilt 9x4 center hit, but since she's practically giving me the pieces, I'm not sure if I should spend $1200 on the fiberbuilt?

And the biggest question of all: SkyTrak or Uneekor???? I was dead set on saving some money and going with the SkyTrak, but if I'm going to pour ten grand or more into this, I want it to be legit. I keep reading some negative things about SkyTrak, so I was willing to spend a little more for the Uneekor. However, last night I was reading a bunch of stuff about the Uneekor having inaccurate data, especially club club data. Do you guys think it's worth spending the extra $4-5k on Uneekor?

I genuinely appreciate any info! My girl has already had enough of this, as I've been reading this forum for days. lol

    I have both

    used skytrack for a year
never liked it found it very left biased and found the unit only 11 inchs from the ball accentuate a a pull ( my miss)
my playing partner plays a big cut it’s in his swing been there for years
skytrack miraculously took most of it away

other than that ball speed and carry distance were accurate

    went to uneekor
marking balls is a pita ( but manageable )
not having the unit on the flooor allows me freedom to swing out now my paths in to out

club speed may not be perfect but
spin numbers both back and side ,ball flight
ball speed carry distance are all spot on when compared to a track man I hit on

the picture of club meeting ball also is a very nice as I can now see heel , center or toe strikes

on the whole I think it’s head and shoulders above skytrack

ps I hit for a year on a gc2 and found it also accentuated an out to in swing path

just my .02 good luck with your project

Having not seen either and going by two things I would go with uneekor. 1st what I read about uneekor is really all good, easy to install operation and works with TGC. 2nd you don't have to pay every year to use the thing. I HATE paying over and over again for something I already paid for. That 1 thing would keep me from buying Sky Track.

Never owned or used a Skytrack, I did have a P3ProSwing, a GolfAchiever, a ES-16, and a GC2/HMT and prefer the QED Uneekor over all of them. I would prefer not to have to use the marked balls and would like to see better club tracking, but that being said I have gotten the best service from Uneekor and the best performance over all.

What do you dislike about using the marked balls? Thinking of getting a Uneekor.

pwade3 not so much about disliking using the marked balls, as it is not being able to use the balls I like to play with in real life. I would recommend the Uneekor above all the systems I have had for both performance and service.

kmallery single or two door garage? I have a two door garage with a par2pro / sportsscreen setup that parks cars every night. 4 minutes to pull cars out, drop the screens, and be ready to hit.

I have hit off skytrack. But, I do like being able to just drop a ball down in an area and hit it. So I mounted a uneekor just below the garage door rails.

Amazing setup Will! I guess there is no snow where you live... I'm so jealous! Because of the dirt (to be polite) it brings with the car, I had to condemn one garage door. I've has ST for only 2 months but am already looking at Uneekor with lust (especially after a shank hit the ST unit and I had to send it back for repairs)

          Wow that’s an awesome setup.

I am actually in the beginning stages of doing the exact same setup but with only 1 garage bay (you can see my post in the sim build forum).

How hard was it to install the stealth elite from par2pro?

And why didn’t you do only 1 bay?

          Thx

Out of curiosity why are you spending 3k on raising the tracks and getting the jackshaft if you have 11 foot ceilings?

For $800 cant you simply lift the tracks and motar and it would sit roughly 10 feet high? Plenty of space.

I am in the process of changing my garage rails so any feedback would be appreciated.

Martlec I live in southern Ohio and figure that we all have to clean our balls.. We have snow, and I know what you mean by having icy sludge on the side of your truck dropping onto your floor. A good wipe preserves the screen. Just wipe your balls! The screen remains clean. Currently, the fake grass is 1.75" thick and I have cutouts for the tires(look near the center)
          to help with evaporation.

Very impressive setup Will. Great job.I'm impressed by how clean you are able to keep it in the winter.
You make me feel like a slob now...

Will that setup is serious man. Very very clean. Tomtom, I had to raise the tracks because they were only at 8’ high. I am raising them to 10’, but my current garage door was in poor condition. Therefore, I needed to raise the tracks to 10’, replace the current opener ( might as well get the jack shaft while I’m doing it) and buy a new door with strong enough springs for the high track. With tax, it was $3,072.00.

I paid 675 to have a jack shaft installed. so much room now.

Will how big is your stealth screen setup? I assume the side panels are 10 foot ones?

                Thanks

                  @soupy

16' center sportscreen with attached 14' impact screen.

10' side sportscreens inset about 8" from the 16' sportscreen so they don't have to be coupled or velcroed when dropped.

              • #12
did you buy the sports screen separate and add your own impact screen? or did you buy them complete from par2pro?

The impact screen and 3 sportscreens are from par2pro. The impact screen is velcroed onto the 16' sportsscreen. Each panel of fabric is wrapped separately. Velcro the sportsscreen to the roller, then velcro the impact screen to the sportsscreen.

The ceiling protection is also from par2pro.

thank you. I am thinking of doing the exact same setup. I am curious how you attached the top netting
so you need 3 separate outlets for the 3 motors?

3 outlets are in use. Thanks for the reminder, I need to tidy that part up. They currently come from the ceiling and plug into wall outlets that are about 4' high.

Will, how did you mount the PC to the ceiling behind the QED?
That would make for very short cable runs from the UNEEKOR and projector. Is that the reason you decided to mount the PC on the ceiling?
