  • Distance from tee to screen

Trying to figure out space in a still to be built house, and between some of the odd spaces and instructions from my wife, where I can put this golf simulator/theater room is limited.

Space I have for the simulator is about 15’ deep with 10’6” ceiling, but info am getting about distance from the screen varies. Is this determined by the simulator you choose (radar vs cameras vs whatever) or are the distances the vendors giving me just based on their companies recommendations (but not actual requirements)?

I have 14.4ft depth (Garage is actually nearly 18ft deep but vaulted ceiling means I have to be a metre away from the wall to get the desired height I need).
With 14.4ft to work with, I am going to place the tee just a little under 8ft from the screen, which will leave me about 6 and half ft for my backswing.

8ft is quite close, but is enough to swing driver with no chance of hitting the screen.
I just need to make sure that i limit bounceback of the ball as much as possible.

With your dimensions, it's going to be a little tighter if your screen is a foot away from the wall, but not much.

In terms of ideal distance from the screen, I don;t really think there is one. There are pro's and con's to be nearer or further.
The nearer you are, the less likelyhood that wedges are going to go over the screen height, BUT bounceback might be an issue.
Obviously you'll need to make sure the projector works so that you can place it in a position that will not throw your shadow on screen.
https://www.projectorcentral.com/ gives a lot of information

      Some are requirements
some are based on requirements plus mfg safty concerns

radars require more space to screen ie mevo ,trackman
photo units much less ie sky track , uneekor, gc 2 ect

and you have space conciderstion to swing a club

      Two options
figure out the unit you want then make sure the space you have fits it

or figure out your space and buy the unit that fits

15 foot is too shallow for radar but fine for photo
      units

if I was re building the smallest space id want for swing and unit viability is

      20 x 20 x 10

the smallest id consider period is
      15 deep x 16 wide by 10 high

any thing else is a server compromise in space to swing

my space is 10.6 wide by 17 by 10 high
and it’s too tight for me to comfortably swing longer clubs
      is it wide enough yes
mentally it’s an issue for me and a lot of guys that come by

You need around 7 feet from the ball to the back wall or driver will likely be too close on the back swing. You need roughly 6.5 feet from the ball to the wall behind you at address for the same reason. You need roughly 3 feet from ball to the wall in front of you at address. You need roughly 9.5’ height. You need roughly 7 feet from the ball to the screen and you likely need 8-12 inches from the screen to the wall behind it. IMO, the bare minimum of a room is 10x15x9.5. This is a 4 wall room. Don’t expect to have anyone in a room that small but you.

I put one in my buddy’s house at 10’ wide and it felt small but worked. GolfTown in Toronto is 12 feet and it seems like plenty. Both require and offset for left and right play. Both are 23 feet long and 4 walled.

My room is 20x16x10 and is 4 walled. I wanted 23 but the architect could only get the roof of the addition line up at 20 feet. The best part is the roof trusses ended up having the gutters 6 inches higher and the top line of the room 4 inches below the existing. The architect was an idiot. I wish I had 3 more feet.
