  • First Time Garage Build- Insight Needed

    Hey guys,

Been lurking the forum for a while and have read through the entire build forum over the last few days and have decided to put together a budget for a garage build.

I just had a baby and I can already tell getting out to the range or the course on a consistent basis is going to prove difficult…

I've decided on a 9 X 9 space sandwiched between the wall to the left and my garage door railings to the right to hang an impact screen in my garage, and then I can position the hitting mat to wherever I'd like since the width of my garage is about 20'

I’m curious if my budget below looks somewhat accurate, and also have a few questions:

-I was originally going to build out an EMT or wood frame to hold up the impact screen and netting, but now I'm thinking I can utilize the rafters above instead. Has anyone had success in doing this? I'm wondering if it would cause any issues to the screens performance or if it should be ok.

-On the simulation software, I'm debating between E6 vs TGC...I have an iphone or my laptop that I can utilize for this so I'm interested in hearing pros/cons of the 2.

-I'm going to go with Carl’s Preferred impact screen but am confused about the aspect ratio. Since it's a 9x9 it looks like 1:1 is my only option?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks guys!!

Looks pretty good. Make sure to budget a few hundred for your screen frame and hardware. gene438 has a nice projector for sale in the classifieds at a decent price. Par2pro has 'imperfect' screen material dirt cheap for its quality and you also don't need a net behind it.

Harbor freight has mesh net tarping for $50 that would be more than enough if you want side/top protection.

If you can save on those few things you would have extra towards TGC 2019. Don't forget to check into a ProTee system if you haven't already. It measures club data and is much more accurate than a skytrak at short shots from what I've heard. You could find one for about the same price as a skytrak also.

Appreciate the response! I didn't include the screen frame/hardware since I was planning on hanging the screen from the rafter beams as opposed to building out a frame.

Do you need a net behind the carls' impact screen?

I actually have a harbor freight just down the street so will take a look at the mesh net tarping for side/top protection.

I will check out the ProTee system as well.

      Thanks!

I'm not sure if Carl's requires one or not. If you're planning on hanging it from the rafters, I would go with a steel cable across the top using Harbor Freight tarp clips and tarp/ball bungees from Lowe's. Simple & affordable.

Yep I like the steel cable call. Got some of that lying in the garage just need to pick up some tarp clips and ball bungees.

I’ve been doing some research on the ProTee simulator...it looks like it comes with a Mat to hit off of, is that right? If so, would I not need to buy a true hitting mat and just a piece of turf to stand on instead?
