Newbie Canadian planning build..

Hi guys. I've gotten great info here on sim builds, thanks for sharing.
The room I am planning is 17' wide x 32' deep and 11' ceiling, and a 2" subfloor to recess the hitting mat.
-Impact screen will be 16x10.
-I'm pretty much sold on the Uneekor QED/ E6 Connect/ 4K projector and CCE mat.

The plan is going well but I'm at a bit of a roadblock with the enclosure.

Since the room is only 1 foot wider and higher than the screen, I want to line the walls and ceiling with some sort of padded panels (6-10' out from the screen) rather than curtains for a clean look but also to absorb wayward shots without significant bounce-back. I'm assuming I'll need something at least 2-3" thick to absorb impact from a wild ball without a dangerous ricochet.
But I am having trouble coming up with solutions.
- Vant upholstered panels are very nice but very expensive- would be over $6K Canadian to cover the floor and ceiling 6 feet out from the screen
- Upholstered acoustic panels are also a nice option but just as expensive (or more) than the Vant panels
- Foam textured acoustic tiles on Amazon (from China I assume) look ok and are not expensive at all, but durability might be an issue -plus after this significant investment to put together a nice sim, I'd hate to finish it off with something that looks like cheap patchwork and gets chewed up by impacts.

Any other ideas or input from experience would be appreciated!

Your space is plenty big enough that you likely shouldn't worry about "bounceback". A 17 foot wide space is plenty forgiving. Save the trouble of padded panels and if absolutely necessary hang some curtains.

Another aspect is dampening the sound. It will be an enclosed room, with plywood walls for 10 feet at the Sim end, the rest drywall. I imagine it would be pretty loud if balls were hitting the bare plywood. Perhaps padded black carpet would be sufficient if ricochets wouldn't be an issue with that room width....

That is about the size of my screen and i have never seen anyone miss it from 10-12 feet away. I would be more concerned about protecting the ceiling from flop shots.

How will you get through the perma ground ice up there in Canada? LOL

My room is similar to yours. Here's what I did. I used plywood instead of drywall where I wanted padding then crown stappled carpet tiles to it. It's super slick and really easy. I then made blackouts for the top and side to hide the extra around the screen. I would never ever do it another way again.

I live in the "Florida" part of Canada luckily, has barely gotten below freezing on most days this winter.

I was leaning towards carpet tile. It does look great! Did you put carpet padding underneath or is the thickness of the tile sufficient? Do you find it dampens the noise of an impact fairly well also?

You have no idea how bad a shot it takes to hit a big screen. My kid did it when he was 10. That’s about it. Ball bounces into the screen.
