  • Tight space lefty/righty build

Hello everyone, I’m planning a home sim set up in the future. Space is a little tight. It’s a 10x10 space in the garage. Due to the tight space a lefty has to hit from one end and a righty has to hit on the other side. I’m considering a skytrak vs the new mevo +. My options as far as I know are to move a skytrak from one end to the other. Or center a mevo+ behind the mat. Does anyone have any advice? Also, does anyone know if a mevo+ will pick up shots hit on the side of the mat? I’ll attach a quick drawing of the space for reference.

Forget about radar. Can you even swing a club in that space?

Yes. You have to hit from the far side of the mat on each side

FSUsmith So, your plan is to put the ball 2 feet from the wall and hit toward the screen. Your driver head would then be about 2 feet from the screen on follow through. That is tight.

Do you really expect many left handed people to play? It's tough to make such a compromise on yourself for some possible guests.

Why not hit from 16' away from the "screen" 10 wall and center the right hander's shot? (I think you will miss the "left" 10'wall) Place the ball 5' away from the "right" 10' wall.

If you park cars in the garage, what way do they park? Lay the whole garage out if you want some opinions and ideas.

I’m left handed. The ability for right handed would be for everyone else lol. The space from the tee to screen isn’t an issue. I can be about 10 feet from the screen. That drawing is of the “tandem” part of the garage. The rest of the garage in front of that is a standard 2car. The width is the biggest issue. Thanks for everyone’s help

This build will be going in a new house we’re closing on in 2 weeks. I went by today to look again and I will have about 9 feet from ball to screen and will be able to have a mevo + positioned 7-8’ behind the ball. Again I’ll have to hit from one side for lefty and the other for righty. Does anyone know if it’ll be impossible to just move the mevo + side to side?

You will have to move the Mevo+ from side to side if both left and right handed players are hitting from opposite sides of the mat. Mevo needs to be positioned directly behind the ball.. you won't be able to set it up on the center line of the mat, and pickup shots from the sides of the mat...

I don't see why you couldn't move it for each player though. It may be a pain, but do-able.

Yeah I know it’s far from ideal... but before spending all that money I just want to make sure the mevo+ will pick up shots accurately like that.

Yeah, understandable. Hard part is, since hardly anyone has a Mevo+ in hand yet, there's not a lot of user experience for your situation. Might have to give it a try and sell it off if it doesnt work.

You can also email Flightsscope. They are very helpful. I had questions about my garage heater placement to minimize any interference. I sent them floor plans of a couple different layout and heater options I created, and they provided some really good feedback as to the best layout.

I am in a similar situation. I'm also a lefty and was trying to design with righty friends in mind (not that I have any... friends that will show up that is). My available space is also similar to yours. 10W X 10H X 15D. Except I had to give up my garage spot to do this. Wife's orders. It also meant surround netting because her car is still in the garage (I already hit it once. I'm lucky to be alive.)

I chose to go with the SkyTrak, but that was months ago before the M+ was even a blip. I still don't regret that, essentially going Camera vs RADAR. Basically what I'm trying to say is I'm currently living what you're trying to accomplish, and standing in my situation I would not think the M+ would work well. I think the angles are too much. Now... that is just my opinion. I don't know for certain. But, another opinion I will share is that I don't think I'd go gambling a $400 "restocking fee" to find out. But that's just my wallet speaking. If it weren't for that, it would definitely be worth a go I'd think.

Interested to see how your build turns out, seeing as we're both dealing with the same problems!

Thank you for the advice! I sent flightscope a diagram and explanation... according to them it’ll work, but hopefully that’s not just them trying to sell the product. I lean towards Skytrak more everyday but the model of having to pay yearly even when using other software isn’t my favorite.

when you use the skytrak with righties, do you move the unit all the way to the other side? Or just a little bit and have them hit over it?

FSUsmith Just curious what gives you the space to set the unit down that far back, but not move the hitting area back (to the right on your diagram)? I have a MEVO+ in a very similar space you're contemplating, and I'm fine with it just being RH only. So far, no problems with MEVO+ in that space. But, I'm not into simulation for the rounds of golf as I am for swing improvement.

One of the major conditions for me to be able to do this is that the wife can still park her car in the garage. Using that tandem part allows me to stay out of her way. But I do have space behind for the unit. Hopefully that makes sense

I move it all the way to the other side for my application. I knocked up a quick and dirty picture to illustrate. To quote Doc Brown, "Excuse the crudeness of the model. It's not exactly to scale."

I'll admit. I didn't see that as an option. The bottom line is if you can swing you are good to go.

Necessity is the mother of invention. I had to work with the only space in my house with a high enough ceiling other than the dinning room. I hesitantly slid it out on the table... the wife looked at me vaguely like I'd just suggested Polygamy as a viable lifestyle for us. About as I had expected.

So yeah, Swing is King, and that's how I made it work.
