  • New build questions, nothing purchased yet, but only have 10x10x20

    Hello,
Thanks for any help to start off. I've been reading quite a bit but have a few questions. To start off, I'm building in the garage and I have 10ft ceilings and I can only use one garage space which is 10ft wide and I believe I have about 20ft of depth.
My initial inclination is to get an enclosure from Carls that is 9.5" by 9.5" by 10ft deep with an impact screen.
I'm getting a Skytrak and The Golf Club software since I have a solid gaming PC from a couple years ago. Planning on getting a 5x5 real feel mat so i can use real tees and rotate it 90 degrees and get 4 sides of wear.
Being limited by a 10x10 screen size, I basically have no choice but to use the 4:3 aspect ratio.
    My questions I guess are:
How do I decide which screen (preferred or premium)
And I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by the number of projector choices and options. I've used the projector central webpage but it still feels like I'm just guessing. I'm concerned that I'll spend wasted money on a high end projector that is limited by some other factor. I want to do this once so I'm willing to spend $1400 or so on a projector if it adds value. I just dont know enough about software resolutions, aspect ratios, graphics cards....I know they are all related to a certain extent and I'm sure one of them can act as the limiting factor. Basically I want the best possible image given the limits of my space.
    Thanks,
    Mason

    Random thoughts for you...
    1. 10' wide space is not enough if you want to center your ball position, I think you need at least 7' from ball position to wall -- 8' would be even better for taller golfers or those with flat swings -- I have about 7'6" from ball to curtains and have had a couple of people slightly touch the curtain on a follow through
    2. 20' of depth is plenty and 10' ceiling should be good
    3. I spent less than $300 for 12' x 9' impact screen from Spectrum Golf. Most people spend much more, but I have been pretty happy. It is starting to wear thin in one spot after 20 months. Between rotating and patching the screen, I expect to get at least 5-6 years out of it. It gets probably 6-8 hours of play per week on average.
    4. I use 4:3 most of the time, but can use 16:9 (image does not go all the way to floor in this mode). I bought an Epson Home Cinema 1060 projector for $500 (it was a good deal) and have been VERY happy with it. But the throw ratio is such that this projector needs to be installed behind the golfer. Mine slides from 14'6" to 16'6" from the screen depending on aspect ratio. I can get my room pretty dark, so brightness with that Epson at those ranges is not an issue
    5. When I bought mine, a 4K projector would have approached $2,000. The basic HD (1080p) is plenty good for me, even when we use it for movies.
    6. I have an NVIDIA GTX 1070 (8G memory) graphics card and that is plenty powerful enough. Could probably get by with a step below that, but the price will not be much lower. We use our simulator for entertaining friends, so I did not want to be cheap on the graphics.

Since im using the parking space on the right hand half of the garage, the 10 feet of width is the most concerning part and definitely making me consider it might not be worth all the costs if my space is going to be cramped. Making things worse is that the garage door opener motor is right in the center of the garage ceiling, so if Im standing anywhere near the center of the parking space on the right hand side of the garage my follow through comes pretty close to hitting the opener motor...and even then i feel like im kind of close to the wall. So, fairly close wall to my right and garage door opener motor on my follow through....not ideal. Thanks for the reply

Check out the Chamberlain Wall Mount Garage Door Opener. I made that change and it gave me enough room.

your space sounds very similar to what I am working with. I hit offset but am used to it now and it really doesn't bother me. I've linked my garage build to give you an idea of how the space worked for me. Its a double garage with photos taken from the parking space for the car that still exists. https://golfsimulatorforum.com/forum...n-garage-build
