  • Help needed - Garage retractable screen and projector placement

I have been given permission to start a garage build that will still be used as garage. After reading a lot on this forum over the last year I have ordered a MEVO+ purchased a used Benq MS632ST projector. The goal is to have it operational in September.

I am planning on purchasing the Sportscreen with Direct From Mill screen or possibly Stealth Screen if budget allows.

Is 12" clearance between garage wall and sports/stealth screen sufficient? How is the longevity of this setup? I see they offer a discount on replacement stealth screens which makes me question how durable this setup is.

As far as projector placement, I was originally going to have 10 ft from ball to screen and place the projector at 10ft. After talking with Flightscope they suggested I go with 13 ft ball to screen and 7ft ball to Mevo+. Will I have to worry about hitting the projector if it is approximately 2ft in front of the ball?
I am planning on a 120" wide screen in 4:3 format.

Below is layout of the garage and planned simulator setup. Any suggestions/improvements/comments would be greatly appreciatedClick image for larger version

If you're able to center the projector over the ball (even if it's a couple feet forward of it) it won't be a problem. When you think about the path your club takes on the follow through, the club head will be well left of the projector as it comes up and through (for a righty). It would be more problematic if you were hitting off-center (toward the right) with the projector more out in front of your body. Your setup is rather normal in this regard. My projector is about a foot out in front of me. It's no problem.

As far as the space between the screen and the wall, 12 inches should be fine, especially if you have some foam padding or something back there.

You could look at changing the garage door track to a hi lift track with a side mounted opener. That would open the whole space. That’s what I am doing, then I went with a 16 ft wide screen and no side walls.

The placement of the projector shouldn't be an issue at all. Mine is about 2' in front of my tee and I don't even come close to it.

12" from screen to wall... I plan on getting my screen as close to the wall as possible when I build and plan on using 1 or 2 of these behind my screen. With 12" to work with I would make sure not to tighten the screen to much out of concern for the durability. 12" of movement in the screen is quite a bit and should be avoidable without crazy contraptions.

Go look at Bazooka Joe’s step by step process for hanging memory foam behind the screen. It is currently just a few post down on the page.
