  • Basement Build

I decided to start my own topic on my project rather than adding comments here and there on other posts.
I picked a spot in my basement where I could build a sim room 13' wide x 17' long with 9' ceiling height.

The first step was to frame the walls.

I completed the electrical. Optoma EH200ST projector ceiling mounted (VIVO Universal Adjustable White Ceiling Projector $15.99 from Amazon) and plugged into ceiling outlet. Remote controls the functions of the projector including on/off. I have marked the ceiling location for my Uneekor EYEXO. My screen is not yet assembled but projector is mounted with lens approx 7' from back. When connected to the computer it projects both 4:3 and 16:9 quite well. I am confident that it is properly located. I installed an LED Pinspot Stagelight ($18.00 from Amazon) directly over my hitting spot. It is also controlled by a remote so it is plugged into the same ceiling outlet. I have a Lithonia 44" 3 light dimmable LED track light ($42.98 from Lowes) mounted near the back of the 17' room. Next will mount the EYEXO.

I have the 10.5' x 8' frame for the Carl's screen enclosure assembled by using 1" EMT. The 2 halves will be put together after the flooring is in. But first the room will be drywalled.

It seemed overwhelming and once I got started I developed a real appreciation for the ability of the skilled trades who do this sort of stuff for a living. For a while it seemed like 2 steps forward, one backward as I encountered obstacles and had to improvise. I found that regardless of how much you plan there is always something you don't anticipate. But you are right. I am having fun.

Following this closely. It looks great so far, and its close to what I am looking to build out. Really want to get your insight and lessons learned on this. Here is my post:

Judd, I encountered all the dilemmas that you are facing and until it is up and running you won't be sure. Mine is working flawlessly with the proviso that I haven't hit a single ball yet, I've concentrated on getting all the systems installed and running before I finish the walls and floor. I don't think you can go wrong with a Carl's screen enclosure. Get the DYI version and buy 10' EMT at Home Depot to finish. They provide all the connectors. I love my Optoma projector. Even though I don't have the screen up when I project onto the wall it appears that I will be able to use either 4:3 or 16:9 format. I did a lot of soul searching on the simulator. It had to accommodate both LH and RH golfers (I am lefty). I actually ordered the MEVO+ but when I found the 2-3 month delay I cancelled and moved toward Uneekor. I chose the EYEXO which went on the market about this time over QED for ease of use and installation. I am now in process of installing the software. I have TGC 2019 downloaded and installed. I watched numerous YouTube videos before making any simulator decisions especially Jay Lasco on Golf Simulator Videos and Roland Cornejo, Jr on Garage Golf. I emailed them with questions and got honest, unbiased answers. If you decide to go with the EYEXO I suggest you give a call to Jeremiah Ergen and Green Pro Golf Simulators.and order the simulator and software through him. He is truly dedicated to getting the product to you and helping you with any problems you might have. For example, today Sunday he answered my email right away and we were in touch even by phone helping me with software install. That isn't his job but he stands behind what he sells.
I have other advice on computer, touchscreen monitor, etc. I will be happy to answer any questions you might have.
I expect to have as much fun building this as using it with friends.

Looks like it's going to be a great set up. I'll take you up on the computer, touchscreen monitor, etc. advice. I'm just getting started so I don't have specific questions - do you mind sharing what you bought? TIA

Foreman33, the computer is Acer Nitro 7 laptop w/Intel Core i7 9th gen processor, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Storage and GeForce GTX 1650 Graphics Card ($849 eBay). The touchscreen is Planar Helium PCT2435 24" LCD Full HD Resolution Monitor ($276 from WalMart). I hope that answeres your questions.

This was a refurbished PC. You can find something comparable I'm sure. You can find the minimum specs here on the forum or on the site where you are purchasing the software.

The touchscreen isn't installed yet but I'm sure it was worth the price and it will be easier to control the software

The drywall is up now and painted with one coat of Sherwin Williams Iron Ore. I think it is a great color recommended by another forum member.

I relocated my projector so that it would be 7' from the screen location. And I relocated the EYEXO to give me 8' from the hitting surface to the screen. I wanted to raise it to 9' so I mounted it between the floor joists.
