  • A Teachers Garage Build

Long time listener, first time caller.

I've purchased a Skytrak that's due to arrive next month. I had in my head the screen size and resolution but I don't think I can pull it off. As you can see in my garage the railings for the garage door extend too far for enough width to accommodate the height required for 16x9 or 16x10. I'm looking at placement hitting into (I know..) the windows. I feel like the railings are going to be too close to put it on the wall going into the house. I could purchase a wall mounted garage door opener and take the opener out of the equation to move things over but I've already mounted my TV.

Looking at this setup, what screen size should I go with? It looks like I may be stuck to 4x3 which I guess i'm okay with but it wasn't preferable. I've already purchased my Quattro mat and looking to build an EMT frame with Carl's mid tier impact screen.

Thoughts? You guys are the experts here.

Turns out I can cut down the rails a bit. I've updated the photo layout here.

Edit: I have purchased a wall mounted garage door motor.

Before getting to the screen, don't you need to make sure the garage door motor unit and rails won't be in the way first? I don't think the windows will be an issue provided you give yourself enough space behind the screen and also back up the screen with something just in case. What is your ceiling height? All I see is something 7.7 and I assume that is the opener.

I think I mentioned above, the motor isn't of consequence because I can install a wall mounted motor (on sale for $355 right now). The very top of the graphic shows it's just over 9 ft ceiling height (9.4). The rails are the issue for sure, which is what is puzzling me on size. I don't want to be left with not enough height. I have a little move than 11 ft from wall to the rails. That's why I'm trying to figure out screen size/resolution ahead of time.

Look at changing to high lift rails to get the door close to the ceiling as possible

Sadly it's only a 9.4 ft ceiling so I'm not sure it's going to help that much.
