So my ST shipped today which has forced me to get on the hitting area a little quicker. I have a hitting mat already, but what do you guys do for tees? I have some of the rubber ones with the large base which stands on its own. You can also put a real tee into it for added height. Does the ST pick that up if it goes flying with the ball? I am thinking of drilling a hole in the hitting mat and putting it under the mat so it is flush with the hitting surface. Then I could put a ball right on it for irons, and put a real tee in it for driver. Am I overthinking this or would that work?

Tee or not to tee

So for shots hit off a tee (like driver) the Skytrak works best when the tee is placed a few inches behind the red dot (in the direction opposite your target). For irons, you'll want it on the red dot. So your idea of drilling a hole would work, but the hole would have to be a few inches behind where the red dot will be. Hit your drivers from there and then hit your irons on the dot (and wedges work best just ever so slightly in front of the dot). Does that make sense?
The hole is actually not a bad idea. I use the rubber tees with the large base like you describe. 9 out of 10 times it's fine, but I do get a crazy read every once in a while that I suspect may be due to the tee flying in front of the camera and tricking the unit or something.

I use black rubber driving range tees sitting on top of the mat. Color doesn't confuse SkyTrak's cameras, and they last forever: https://amzn.to/2IFQ1k1- Ron at GunghoGolf.com - we specialize in TrackMan, FlightScope, Foresight, Uneekor, SkyTrak, Garmin, Bushnell, TGC, and E6 Connect. 512-861-4151 or email hello AT gunghogolf.com.

I’d suggest “tomahawk neo” tees. They just sit on top of your mat, and there are 2 heights. You can cut down the bigger ones, but I’ve never bothered.
I use them with a “tee claw” to stop them flying all over the place. Tee claw screws down into the mat, lanyard attaches to the tomahawk tee. Easy.

All good suggestions guys. Also good advice on placement of ball depending on club selection. I will try setting them on top like a couple of you do and see what happens before I go drilling any holes. Mine are the white ones like posted above. They definitely do fly into the net when hitting driver.
