New Build Timeline with Pics

After much research here (more to do) on this Forum, where I’m very grateful to have received lots of great advice. I’m finally ready to begin construction of the Sim Room addition onto my Workshop. I though I would use this thread to document the process, in case there are others that come behind me and can potentially learn from my mistakes or apply lessons learned along the way.

Room will be 16.5’ x 20’ with 10.4’ flat ceiling. More on the room dims below.

Construction Day 1: Foundation work. I had contractors bury 6x6’s in concrete to support the structure. The floor joists are 16 footers, but I want a true 16’ width finished inside. So I had them attach 1 foot pieces to the banding today to create room for 17’ floor joists. See pics. Relatively smooth day. Letting the concrete cure overnight, then onto more structure tomorrow.

Sorry Gents. Its been a little crazy around here. I was able to take some time off work and concentrate on the SIM Room. Still have a few more days of final touch ups and need to move furniture in, install the bar top and download TGC 2019. QED is installed and configured. I'd assess its 90% done overall. Here some pics of the progress since drywall went up. Will post more when its a finished product.

Looks fantastic, how did you attach your screen at the bottom? I only attached on the top and sides and I have a ton of balls that go under the screen (mainly while putting) but it is driving me nuts!

TheDon- I used 1” EMT and ran it across the bottom, about an inch off the floor. Then wrapped the screen around the pole and used tarp clamps to secure screen to EMT. Works well with the floor being higher than the EMT.

I have always had this problem and never knew what to do! It always drove me nuts. I have some scraps of EMT and some pipe clamps that I never used. Going to try this off center from where I hit to make sure I don't get any scary bounce backs. Thank you!

This article talks about the EMT, fittings and clamps that I used to run the bottom pole. Mine is 16’ wide with one fitting at 10’ so it’s not centered. My raised floor meets the screen about 1” above the EMT. https://gunghogolf.com/articles/diy-...reen-enclosure

How did you pull that off with the raised floor above the screen? I think I would like to make sure that happens for me as well...

Then again, as others have claimed, installing a ramp would also solve that problem at the bottom, and send the balls back to you after every shot too. Are you having to retrieve balls that drop down up front all the time?

Thanks man for the kind words. It was a ton of work. But tons of fun to play now.

The raised floor stops at the screen. The screen hangs all the way to the subfloor. So there is no raised floor behind the screen, just plywood subfloor. Which allows the raised floor to meet directly with screen the entire width of the room.

Some balls come back to me. Others stay up by the screen. I don’t find it to be a problem. Every so often I pick up the balls with the ball collector, takes about 2 mins and I’m good for another hour or so.

Like the idea of using wood a the bottom to create the space between the wall and the screen and drilling a hole for the EMT to fit in. Working on my sim room now and will incorporate that idea on all 4 corners. Can only imagine your cost for all of this because I am adding over 900 sq feet in the attic for this room/theatre room and an office and I will be in it for around $50k and that does not include the PC, projector and GC2 I already have. That alone is around $11k. Very expensive hobby but so worth it when done.

The panels come with their own mounting system on metal tracks. Very easy to install. Tracks screw to wall. Panels snap into tracks.

I love the look of the panels! I was thinking about building something similar using a couple inches of memory foam.....but being able to buy these pre-made panels is damn attractive.

Question: Is the batting thick enough to slow down a direct hit? or is the ball still moving pretty fast?

Great build! It's given me a bit of inspiration. I love the idea of the bottom bar for the screen. I was going to use drilled angle iron, but now thinking the unistrut. Also, what turf did you use? and what computer?
