Attach impact screen directly to the wall?

Going into a room in the basement and the room
Is exactly 10’ wide. I have a raw impact screen. Has anyone used hooks directly into wall studs and then attach using ball bungee to tarp clips? Any downside to doing this? Was thinking both side and ceiling.

Just mount angle iron tho the sides and ceiling and then use the tarp clips and bungees. It will be easy to adjust as needed

My setup is very similar. I used wooden studs to create a frame in the garage (18 inches from the wall). Then I used bungees and tarp clips to hold the raw screen in place - no need for hooks into the studs as the bungee cords held in place well (by wrapping around them). You'll need a gap between the screen and the wall though - I have 2 carpets, 1 duvet, netting and an old curtain between my screen and the wall! Just used what I had lying around.

Only issue with angle iron is that between the angle iron, bungee and tarp clip, I’m losing probably close to a foot on either side of the screen. Is there any way to attach closer to the wall? I have purchased the angle iron, tarp clips and ball bungees.

Wouldn't you be losing that much with any setup using proper screen tension? An enclosure with bungees would be the same wouldn't it? Maybe you could use shorter bungees is all I can think.

You don't really need bungees - the screen material itself provides enough elasticity. Can zip-tie tarp clips directly to the angle irons, so you'll lose only about 3" around the edges.

Ron, any reasons to use a frame vs directly to the wall? I assume portability and if you don’t have access to walls on both sides, anything else?

A frame makes it easier to get side and top protection, but does take away a few inches of available space at sides and top to get it. If you mount to the walls and ceiling directly, you'll need to handle side and wall protection with something like acoustic foam or other padded material glued or screwed to them. Mounting directly gives a cleaner look in the end if dimensions are right for you.

GungHoGolf just saw this (apparently forum won’t send notices for comments??). Thank you for the input, I’m 3 weeks out from my new house and garage build so my thought right now would be to go direct wall to wall (11’) and put carpet tiles or acoustic (seems more costly) over the drywall on the sides and top. End of the day I’ve spent 6 months dreaming about this and it’s almost here!!

Jumping into the thread here. Are tarp clips a bit of a hassle compared to grommets? I envision sort of wrestling with the screen to get it into place, especially if I oversize and fold it over a bit like I'm planning.

Finished edge with grommets seems less hassle to mount.
