New Garage - Moveable Sim Build

Hi all! Great forum you have here. I've been reading through a lot of the posts and have learned a ton. I'm having a new detached garage built and I'm considering putting a simulator in it and I was hoping you could help me with some thoughts / ideas.

The garage is roughly 25'x25' on the interior. It will be used for parking, projects, and a general hang out space so I do not want to dedicate a space for a permanent sim. The ceilings will be about 9'7". Unfortunately I signed the contract and got the permits before I thought about a sim build. I'm 6'3" but I think I should still be able to swing a driver in there. I am having a jackshaft garage door opener put in to clear up ceiling space.

My current build thoughts are as follows:

• Position: I am considering putting the screen against the back wall of the garage. I drive a full size truck so I need the back wall fairly empty anyway to fit the truck in.
• Screen: 14'x9' Par2Pro Stealth retractable. I could technically go with a 16x9 screen but I'm wanting to keep some storage space on the sides and my 4' LED lighting also becomes an issue with how far I would have to push them towards the outside walls
• Sim: Skytrak
• Projector: BenQ TH671ST - Using the calculator it looks like I can mount it at 11ft and project a 16:10 image for the golf sim and then if I want to watch movies I could use the zoom on the projector to display a 16:9 image with some small bars on the top and bottom
• Hitting mat: 4x5 Swingturf
• Landing Mat: some form of thick turf from homedepot
• Side protection: Harbor Freight mesh tarps on curtain sliders or EMT
• Ceiling protection: Still deciding but probably some form of acoustic tiles on foam board insulation

Questions:

• Does this plan look reasonable? Anything else I should consider?
• For those of you with a movable setup how difficult is it to set up and take down? I'm hoping this could be a 10 minute or less endeavor. With the way I am planning it I think I should just be able to roll the landing carpet and hitting mat up against the back wall when done.
• Will it be an issue if the projector is a foot or so behind me when hitting?

Ceiling height should be OK assuming you don’t have an upright swing. I’m 6’2” and have 9’ 6” ceiling and have a few inches to spare on the driver swings. If you’re going with drywall as the ceiling it makes for an easy fix if you do hit it.

I’d look at adding where you plan to place your PC/desk. You’ll want to make sure you place your hdmi outlets at that location. Given this is a new build and the walls are open have the electrician run extra conduit from the projector hdmi outlet to both sides of the garage in case you want to relocated the pc/hdmi source in the future.

should be a quick tear down and rebuild with maybe the exception of lining up the skytrak. Might put some tape or markings on the floor (to place the mat) and on the mat (to line up the skytrak) to make it consistent and easy to setup.

I have a sportscreen with my own impact screen much less than stealth screen but a little more work.

You can cut the aluminum tubing with hacksaw for the length you want. Not sure about the black sportscreen or if the stealth screen cones with the it

Not including moving cars i can have set up in about 5 minutes.

I used the harbor freight mesh tarp for ceiling protection. Commando cloth for side curtains on curtain tracks. Foam tiles with homedepot turf for landing mat.

If your hitting mat moves on you, a piece of velcro on floor keeps from sliding and helps with alignment.

Don't think you will hit the projector a foot behind you. Mine is a foot or two infront of me. Possible shadow with projector behind you, wouldn't think a problem at a foot but do the math and you will know for sure.

Thanks for the input guys. Good call on the conduit. I will be doing most of the finish work myself so I can put that in.

Xfactor989: Couple of questions for you. How did you end up attaching the impact screen to the sports screen? Does it sit taught? Also looking at your picture does the SportScreen typically hang down that far when it is rolled up or can you have it roll up further?

I just finished a 16' retractable SQ stealth installation from Par2Pro. I have to say the quality is exceptional. I hit towards my 16' garage door in my three car garage and when done, I am back to parking in less than 5 minutes. Only thing that is permanent is the ceiling protection panel. I bought turf from Home depot. When I am done, I roll it up and then I lift it to the ceiling with a canoe hoist. Everything is completely gone and I have the full garage to use as I please.

How long did it take from the time of ordering for the screen to arrive? I can't even get the time of day from the techies for a conversation about my challenges.

Long.   They are slammed there.  I ordered around September 30th. Received sports screens in November and then the sq screen in December along with the ceiling panel. The product is extremely well made and of high quality. I do not regret the wait.

So they "projectable screen" is 183W x 107.5T right? Waiting on mine and trying to finish off with projector purchase. What did you go with? Im leaning BenQ TH671ST.

I will definitely post pics but it's going to be a while. Signed the contract for the new garage last June, foundation was poured in December, and I still don't have a date for the building build (likely March). Then I still have to do all the interior finishing prior to getting into the sim build. Stupid COVID delays...

Can you share pics and specs of your setup? I am doing the same. Waiting for delivery for my 16' stealth. I pushed off my delivery date because I am not ready for it yet. But it seems they said they will delivery within the time frame they originally stated which I think was about 2 months.

This looks awesome and is very similar to what I want to do with mine. One question for you. Do you run into any issues with the LED strip lights on the ceiling in your hitting bay? That is probably the biggest thing that worries me as I think through my setup I want to build. If I put the lights I ordered where I want them they will be in the hitting bay like you have them and I'm worried about them getting hit by an errant ball. I suppose I could get some custom made wire guards for them but as I've looked into that the wire guards cost more than the lights do.

Also, how far do the brackets on the P2P screen hang down from ceiling? My ceiling is about 115" so I'm curious if the screen will make it all the way down to the floor.

How heavy is the hitting mats? I find this the most difficult part of resetting up the garage.
