  • Outdoor build - ideas/recommendations

    Hi everyone,

I am looking to get started on a lower budget outdoor build but I am keen to hear your thoughts/recommendations on how to proceed.

The previous owners of my house removed a hot tub from the corner shown in the image and filled the pit with pebbles. I am thinking of digging out the pebbles and tiles then laying a slab of concrete as a starting point for the sim. I am thinking of then laying synthetic turf over the whole slab, adding a net return pro with additional netting hanging of the pergola, a mevo+ and an ipad initially, potentially upgrading to a laptop/monitor on a stand in the future. (Much of my inspiration comes from sirish19's build: https://golfsimulatorforum.com/forum...tor-build-mevo).

Can you see any issues with this approach? Do any better/cheaper/easier approaches come to mind?

My main goal is a safe practice area but I would like to have the option to upgrade to allow full sim play in future.

    Cheers!

Which way will you be hitting? If it were me and I was hitting towards the back/ lower end of the roof angle I would think it would be easier, quicker and cheaper to just pull out some pebbles, redo the base and fill in the tiles/pavers that are missing. That should give you a nice level surface. Unless of course you don’t have enough room to hit in that direction.

Looks like a perfect spot for a sim! As long as you have plenty of headroom

I was thinking I would hit that way, not for any particular reason though, just because it seemed like hanging the netting of the pergola seems easiest if I hit that way. Should be fine for room given the distance I would need between net and ball for the Mevo+ but I will have to measure and map the locations out to confirm.

That's a good suggestion thanks. I suppose the problem is that I am unlikely to be able to match the tiles and that might not look as good long term, which likely won't be acceptable to my gf. I might see what the cost difference is though as that might be a factor.

Any thoughts on the idea of synthetic turf under the hitting mat? Is that a good idea? Is it likely to be sufficient to reduce the risk of wrist injury etc.?

Good to hear! I am pretty sure you mean height and if so yes plenty of room. Let me know if I've misunderstood!

I think the cost saving should be significant and you would not really be removing anything but some pebbles. It’s hard to tell from the pictures, it’s the brown area tile or pavers? Not really sure about the turf as there are many options. The mat is key to many when it comes to preventing injuries. I am using a strip of Quattro mat that I ordered from China (https://golfsimulatorforum.com/forum...hit-off-of-wow) which I am very happy with.
