  • Ideas on garage flooring

    Hi all

I'm putting in a simulator in my garage with a 10' par2pro retractable screen. I still need to be able to put the car in the garage at times so looking for ideas on the flooring. I have purchased gym mats as a base and then artificial putting turf and was going to just lay all this permanently and drive the car over but although the turf is very durable I am concerned about it getting dirty from the car wheels and indentations. my thoughts on options

    1. Jet wash it down every now an again.
    2. Cover turf with a made to measure tarpaulin that can be rolled up when using the sim
    3. Don't bother with gym mats and just use artificial turf that can be rolled up. Is there a a need for a base layer? (need to send back to amazon if that's the case)
    4. Use a tarpaulin to cover base mats and roll the turf up.

apart from no.1 all the other options require a bit of time to set up and take down.

Interested to see what others have done where their sim doubles up as a car garage.

I used rubber flooring rolls from Rubberflooringinc.com as I used my Sim room as a workout gym as well. They are indestructible and will keep the ball from bouncing all over the place. I put a Fiberbuilt mat over them and the rubber base of the mat prevents it from moving AT ALL. I got the 1/2 in rubber rolls but the are probably overkill. 3/8 would definitely do it. These are the rolls I used https://www.rubberflooringinc.com/ru...duty-roll.html

sulli182 I see you mention both the 3/8" and 1/2" rolls, but do you think the 1/4 material would be fine?

I used commercial carpet tiles, which are glued directly to the concrete. Because its rated for high traffic, it easily cleans up and so far so good through our first winter.

Do you have a top turf layer? Do the carpet tiles work absorbing the ball drop?

It will bounce maybe a few times, but its not bad at all. Also because its low pile it doesn't "seem" to get dirty or make the balls dirty. I have no top turf layer, although perhaps in the future I'll put one in, but because my wife needs to be able to park her car in there, it doesn't make sense for me to do that at this point. Perhaps the next house I buy I'll do that.

I use foam interlocking tiles from HD directly on concrete. Fairway Green Indoor/Outdoor Area Rug from HD on top of foam tiles. DIY 4'x5' hitting platform that has handles and casters allowing me to easily wheel and stand to the side. I roll up the fairway area rug move the platform in less than two minutes, and park right on the foam tiles.

Do you have any details or pictures of your mat/platform with handles and wheels? I'm in the middle of figuring out a base for my mat that would allow me to move it and lean up against the wall...

Do you get indentations from the car wheels on the foam tiles? Yes photos would be good of your hitting mat

Yes there were indentations but they did return back to original form. Also I cover the foam tiles with area rug and I've have gotten to a point with family that they have gotten used to the sim being there so they park in driveway.

Ron at Gung Ho did a garage with tiles, they park a car over the top. Nice install....... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nu_98Gl9z7o

I bought outdoor turf form Home Depot. Click image for larger version Name:	Canoe Hoist.jpg Views:	30 Size:	61.2 KB ID:	321863Roll it out when I play golf and roll it back up when done. I then used a canoe hoist from amazon to lift it to the ceiling, out of the way in seconds.

How does it help with ball bounce? Is it thick enough to absorb?

Absolutely cgdavis_2 ...Screen is most important for bounce back but this turf does a great job after ball drops to floor from screen. One or two bounces tops.

Hitting platform built originally to use with my Skytrak. I have since then switched to QED so I added a ramp to allow for putting off the smooth non Fiberbuilt surface.

This platform looks great! What did you use for wood on the bottom/underside of the mat?

Built with 1x2s, 1/2 inch plywood. Here is original post of the platform pre Uneekor. https://golfsimulatorforum.com/forum...nel#post273724

As my garage floors are sloped somewhat the platform accounts for the slope.

I have a similar par2pro setup and went with http://swisstrax.ca/ for the flooring. Easy to install and cleaning is simple ... spray wash or vacuum. My 10x5' CCE mat doesn't slip at all.
