  • Build coming along, what am I missing before drywall?

    Gents,

If you have been following my build, it started out in my garage, and I moved it to my basement. I have posted some pics as we have progressed.

The trusses come out tomorrow, followed by eight 4 X 4 1/4 steel tubes that will run along each side of the top 2X4 of the joist to support the ceiling above. This is giving me a swing height of 8'11 inches. That's all I could get without digging down. It was hard cutting that check for $9k, but it had to be done.

My GCQuad will be delivered next week.

The electrical and HVAC has all been moved. Screen has come down as has the putting green floor so they don't get destroyed by sawdust. Gasline has been rerouted underneath the joists.

Last weekend, in between trips out to Quail for the Wells, I ran my HDMI cord from the wall where my gaming PC will go inside of a cabinet, to an opening where my projector will be placed once drywall goes up. Also ran a Cat6 from my router, through the wall, and to my PC

    2 questions for you all.

What am I missing as far as cords that need to be installed/routed before drywall?

I know I will still need some lighting solution above my hitting mat, any suggestions?

Any suggestions on a computer cabinet?

Do you intend to have an AV Receiver? Will this be used for movies, live tv and golf? Depending on how fancy you want to get you could run the it all through an AV Receiver so that only the HDMI goes to the projector while the PC, Streaming Box and Audio all route through the receiver.

If you do not use an AV Receiver than I would highly suggest you use conduit that is much larger than what you expect to need. Do not use conduit that fits the 1 or 2 cables you will place in it, in the event you want to run additional cables you will hate yourself for not oversizing.

With no AV receiver I would want ethernet, 2 HDMI's and perhaps an audio cable to run through the conduit. It depends if you have a streaming box, where you have it located, etc. But lets say you have an Apple TV next to the projector than you will have a HDMI from the PC to projector, from the Apple tv to Projector, ethernet for Apple TV (best performance but not required), audio cable out of apple tv to sound bar/system.

The easiest but not cheapest is the AVR route, then everything can stay at the cabinet and you run a single HDMI up to the projector.

Great call, forgot all about my receiver. Yes, I will put my receiver, and my gaming PC, in that cabinet, and just run one HDMI from my projector to my receiver. I use the Alexa fire cube too, and set up my speakers. Thanks!

With a receiver and streaming box than it is pretty easy as it would be power and HDMI at the projector. I would suggest having the projector on a power switch or a remote control outlet, just for ease of use.

It works well with the fire box currently. I tell Alexa tv on, and she fires up the projector.

You should install some extra CAT 6 cables to cover any future needs as well. If you have cable failure, a CAT 6 can be converted into HDMI or used as CAT 6 depending on your future needs.

This. As an electrician, I'm always thinking about future considerations while doing anything with wall/ceiling access when it's available.

Consider putting in central vacuum piping from the computer cabinet to wherever you might need HDMI, USB or cat6 access in the future, like the projector mount. They're big enough that anything fits through them so you're covered if technology changes and you want to up your display resolution or get an overhead launch monitor.

Great idea bro. I actually have a central vac already up there that I am cutting out because it was installed with the home and never used that I can re-use. Thanks!

Thinking about my set-up a little bit more, as I'm ready to finish installing everything, help me out.

    HDMI from projector to PC.

The PC I bought only has one HDMI outlet. So now I would need Displayport to displayport to my computer monitor?

Or, I suppose I could go HDMI projector to Receiver, then HDMI back to computer from receiver, but would still need hdmi to computer and display to display to monitor?

Thinking about mounting a touch screen tv or monitor on the wall, instead of just a regular computer monitor on a stand. Anyone done that?

You can attach anything to a display port. Just get the diplay port to hdmi wire from amazon or best buy.

What are your steel beams sitting on where they reach the wall?
