Hitting directly off turf

Does anyone hit directly off turf with padding underneath? I recently hit off putters dream with carpet under it and it felt great but I usually see people using 5x5 mats. I’ll be using putters elite from TFD. I still have my 5x5 CCE mat but this would definitely look cleaner

It works - but what will happen over several weeks to a few months is that the turf will stretch and wrinkle in your hitting area. Depending on the height of your carpet, it may not be providing enough cushion to keep your joints healthy over time.

Worst case if your hitting area gets ugly is that you cut out that section and replace it with a commercial hitting strip like our Holy Grail, but you'll need at least 1" sub-turf material below any hitting strip on the market.
