Space Questions

New to the forum here. I am considering a simulator for my basement. I was looking at other rooms and every space is just a little off.
The basement seems to perhaps be the best space since I have the most hitting depth. The ceiling is 8' 5" the question I have is that too low?
I realize that the Uneekor is out now given the strict height requirements. I am looking at the GC2 and or the TrueGolf system. I can swing a 3 wood in the space (I don't use a driver) so I think it can work.
The dimensions are H 8' 5" W 12' and D is 15' 9".

The GC2 and just about every other non-ceiling mounted unit doesn't care about ceiling height.

Does the 8'5" include the height of the mat? You will loose another inch or two. I cannot take a full swing with an 8 iron in 8'1" of height without occasionally hitting the ceiling.

I would highly recommend practice swings in your setup including the mat height before pulling the trigger. Maybe use a driveway marker to make sure you can take full swings and expect indoor swing syndrome when you start.

That's a good point. I have another room that's H 9' W 12' and depth of 15'. I like Uneekor with swing bay but I only end up with about 6 to the screen from the Uneekor system an 9 Ft to center of hitting zone so not sure that works. Ugh

I'm Skytrak with 8'6" ceilings (5'10" human height) with a carpet pad, carpet, and mat eating up a little more than 2" of that space (~8'4" working height). I don't swing anything longer than my 4i. Majority of my swings are 6i -> SW (~75% are 8i -> SW) and I don't think twice about the ceiling. My sim play is centered around local par 3 courses in TGC2019 I've built to avoid needing long clubs for tee shots. slowly swing a club and have some one watch how close it gets to the ceiling. Might be something where you can only hit irons. The mat will raise you up 1.5 inch or so. Keep in mind that if you have a taller friend or a friend with a more upright swing, they could hit it. I like the idea of setting it up for par three courses. Might want to consider a skytrak or mevo plus that you could move if you found a higher area down the road. You dont want to suffer from indoor golf swing syndrome ( the thought of changing your swing to not hit the ceiling ) . The most important thing about swinging indoors is feeling 100% comfortable.

Don't count out the Uneekor until you verify the truss' are running the wrong way. If the truss' are running perpendicular to your hitting direction you might be able to get the extra six to eight inches. Also, you can go the Wizard of Coz route and cut out what's needed for your mat. He might have a video to share with you to show his experience. That will save you some height for your 3W.

Yeah I was looking and trusses go the wrong direction. I may go the retractable screen approach since the depth of the room could also impact hitting the enclosure on the follow through since it sticks out 5’.
