  • EMT size

GungHoGolf Shoutout to Ron for all the help with my simulator build. His sales team has been great to work with and extremely fast shipping. For those of you who have used their blue print for an enclosure has anyone tried using 3/4” EMT instead of 1”? Nowhere in my vicinity has had the 1” EMT in stock for weeks.

Just being at Lowe’s the 3/4” seems to be solid. The enclosure will be 12’6” wide.

I used 1" and it spans just under 10' (single solid piece) well. Not sure if you have fittings already, but seems you would need different ones to drop down to 3/4". Not sure what market you are in, but I would expand my search for 1".

100% would need different fittings, I am getting those through A1 tarps I believe and they have them available in a multitude of sizes.

Mostly concerned about how much sag would exist in the 3/4” vs. 1”

You'll get more sag with 3/4", and you'll need 3/4" fittings (think A1tarps.com has them) - otherwise should work. To minimize sag, use 2 equal pieces at 6'3" for the two top horizontal bars, and position the 2-way splicers such that the screws are on top - that forces those ends up a bit and tends to straighten out the sag. With a 16' wide enclosure with 1" EMT, doing that completely straightens any sag.

Since I am building two enclosures I may build the one in the garage with 3/4” and see how it looks. Then hold out on the indoor setup doubling as an entertainment center.

GungHoGolf I was just rereading the article on your website and wanted to clarify your recommendation. Is the even split of the horizontal plans the newest recommendation, because in the article I think the recommendation was to use a full 10 foot piece and a shorter piece to complete the span.

Yes, I need to update the article. We recently discovered the trick of orienting the two-way splicer in the middle with screws up which forces the middle up a bit. Works better at or near the center position than nearer to an end.
