    Well....almost done

Discover the magic of the internet at Imgur, a community powered entertainment destination. Lift your spirits with funny jokes, trending memes, entertaining gifs, inspiring stories, viral videos, and so much more from users.

This is our almost final result. Spent way more than anyone should to get it done including adding a 16 X 22 piece to our house.

Our first impression is that it looks great and there is lots of functionality but so far it's not all it should be. The shot distances seem quite far off despite several calibrations. We basically confirmed this today by playing a real round of golf on closing day for our course. I have read there are tweaks that can be done for better accuracy so we're hoping this will help.

We also had a mis-sized ceiling net we have to send back and we will have to do some ceiling repairs after we get it back as the ceiling has taken a bunch of hits. (My son skyed 5 balls the first time playing and I've done two. None of these shots came close to the sensor. The tees don't go as far into the turf so we had to do some adjustments to them.

I like that there is no lag in the system and the huge screen looks awesome. We have the E6 software and are still working out some kinks. I tried to take a drop for a ball hit into the trees and it took me straight back from the hole rather than back along the line it was hit so it was useless. I'm sure there must be a proper way to do this.

The hitting mat and turf are really nice and the screen is amazing. Quiet and almost zero bounce back.

I also bought a couple shot cameras from AliExpress and they work quite well with normal lighting. I will probably add some more light for practice as we do get a bit of blur with the 120 FPS.

It will be fun to play through the winter and we will reassess if we can't get some more realistic shot readings.

OMG! that's an amazing setup, very classy... let me know what size net you purchase, and how you protect ceiling, I'll be needing to add that in the next few days and want to make sure I'm covered!

More pics please Or a video...

    Thanks,

What did you use for your grass looking carpet around the screen - I am looking at surrounding my golf hitting mat from the mat to the impact screen

        I used turf from
Par2Pro and put foam gym mats under it. It makes it exactly the same height so looks great. https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B074DSQF13/...ing=UTF8&psc=1

Have you missed any left or right , just wondering how protected the curtain is there, is there any padding behind it ? Looks like you have a slope from the screen back to hitting mat , is that the case ? Awesome setup !!

I haven't hit the sides yet but the net hangs 6 inches from the wall so I think it will be fine. I had to send my ceiling net back for proper sizing and to get grommets added that were forgotten. I learned that the tees don't go as far into the mat as they do into turf so have managed to put numerous dents into the temporarily unprotected ceiling. My son did about 6 and I even managed 1. I cut a few tees down and it's okay now.

No slope from the screen. The picture is a panorama so is a bit distorted.

I have managed to get this done through horrendous construction circumstances. Crazy high cost of everything. Every contractor and tradesman is booked solid, sometimes months in advance. I was lucky to only have a few long waits and was able to do a lot of the work myself.

I/we tried not to cheap out on anything so it does look great. Screen is over 14 feet wide and the room is plenty large. I figure I could have saved thousands sourcing the sim stuff myself but my wife felt more comfortable with a complete package so that's what we did. I am extremely lucky my wife loves to golf almost as much as me. (130 plus rounds in a season from mid April to early November)

I bumped on that… Unless I'm reading that incorrectly, that sounds like the proper way to take a drop. You almost never drop "back along the line it was hit." It's on a line from the hole through where your ball is.

Well that's the way (Drop on a line back from the pin) it is in the E6 game, but that's not the way it's done in real golf.

I sent in a request to E6 and they responded that it was a known problem and they were having the team work on it, but they had no estimate on a fix.

Again, unless I'm misunderstanding you… you drop back on a line away from the hole in "real golf," too.

An unplayable ball has three options:
                  1. Stroke and distance.
                  2. Two clublengths.
                  3. Back on a line away from the hole.

The line of flight is irrelevant. Even when you cross a margin of a penalty area, the only time the "line it was hit" matters is in determining the point at which it crossed the margin of the penalty area, at which point you can go back on a line away from the hole once again.

Okay some confusion on my part. Penalty area vs unplayable. In a penalty area you go back on the line to where it entered the penalty area and then back from the line to the tee from this point. In the game there are no stakes that I can see red or white so I'm assuming certain areas are penalty areas or hazards. Perhaps these courses don't have them like the courses I'm used to. The only penalty area I've found so far has been water where it gives an option for a drop. All other, what I would assume to be penalty areas, don't give the "margin" drop. Perhaps the "big boy" courses don't even use stakes for the nasty stuff.

                Thanks for the links.....

No, you don't. The line of flight isnot really a thing in "real golf." You never go back on that line except to determine where a ball last crossed the margin of something.

Edit: Trees are generally not marked as penalty areas. More info here: https://www.usga.org/content/usga/ho...es/rule-2.html.

Isn't determining where the ball entered the hazard going back along the line of flight from where was hit? This can be much different than going back from the ball location on the line from the pin. If I hit a big slice and it goes into a hazard, it might be 45 degrees off the angle to the pin which would put the drop in a very different location from dropping directly from ball location back from pin line.

Rather than argue the rules as you know what I'm meaning here, why don't you just say there are very few staked areas on these courses which is totally different from the lower level courses I play?

On every course I've played so far, If you hit a slice into the woods it usually (Not always) crosses red stakes. I locate where it "went in" then take a drop and penalty there. These courses are obviously not set up this way and I'm sure the courses you are a rules official for aren't either. You are a PGA pro and I'm just a guy who like to golf a lot. It is obvious that while I may shoot 80s on my local courses, I would shoot 110 plus on any of these courses. Any shot in the woods will cost me many strokes.

You don't go back on the line, you go back to a point at which it crossed. If you want to go back from there, it's on the line from the hole. An area with trees should really probably not be marked as a red penalty area.

Rather than argue the rules, maybe learn them? 😀

You don't go back on the line, you go back to a point at which it crossed. If you want to go back from there, it's on the line from the hole. I hit from the tee into the hazard. The point that the ball enters the hazard will be more or less the line from the tee to where the ball is. From this point you do your legal drop. I know you will say not exactly. Yes it may bounce or have taken a curved path, but you know what I mean and are just being obtuse.

An area with trees should really probably not be marked as a red penalty area. Yes. In your world of golf pros. In my world of just regular folks who play golf, many areas are marked with red stakes. I'm pretty sure this is done so that regular golfers aren't taking ten strokes trying to find some way to recover from their slice or pull into the trees.

"Most golfers never break 100." If "most golfers" were forced to play on courses without red staked areas and having to return to the tee after each bad shot, the game of golf would disappear for all but the elite who can play on manicured courses.

Rather than argue the rules, maybe learn them? I explained how I didn't explain my original meaning properly which was my mistake. I then explained what I really meant and you nit picked that. I then explained that I play on courses not really meant for pros so are set up differently (My misunderstanding) and yet you still feel the need to be an ass.

I bow down to your PGA pro-ness. You are all masterful and so much better than me. I am dirt beneath your elite and wonderful feet. You are so right and I so wrong. You sure are smart and have shown me up. I'm sure it makes you feel wonderful.

                    I'm done.

                      Oy.

                      - Trees aren't generally penalty areas on ANY course, "pro level" or not.
                      - I had an emoji after the "learn them?" comment.
                      - I said a time or two that I may be misunderstanding what you're saying.
                      - When someone says "back on a line" they aren't talking about a point.

And most golfers don't follow the Rules. They drop their ball where they want, kick it or nudge it into a better lie, whatever. And that's cool. But you were complaining about the software not applying the rules properly when, from what I read, it probably was. I showed what you wrote to a few others and they read it the same way I did.

Sorry for trying to help you.

I hope you can move forward from the rules... and please still wondering a few things...

I have managed to get this done through horrendous construction circumstances. Crazy high cost of everything. Every contractor and tradesman is booked solid, sometimes months in advance. I was lucky to only have a few long waits and was able to do a lot of the work myself.
I also feel your pain, I'm deep into my construction and doing it 'all by my self' (as my daughter used to say, when she was 2 years old).... I couldn't find a single contractor that was reasonable, or that had time to do it right away, and wanted to get back to me 2-3 months from now! Ridiculous... I'm feeling it though, today I cut a hole in one wall for a window, last week I ripped out a garage door and erected a wall. Tomorrow I finish the window, and probably the trim/siding around it so I can finally begin the work inside. Going to be a challenge - and sure hurts your body when you run a 'sawsall' for about 2 hours trying to cut out wall sheeting.... Ah well, I digress... here are my questions:

                    1.) you say:

I haven't hit the sides yet but the net hangs 6 inches from the wall so I think it will be fine.
Are you saying the 'back net' is 6 inches from the wall? Really and it stops the balls without hitting the back wall? What exactly is the screen you are using and is there anything else behind it - what is it?

Sorry I have to be very specific, but I'm trying to get as close as 8" from my back wall to increase my space (ball to screen).... I would like to move to 6", but not sure it's even possible - you're the first person I've heard get that close, if you are talking about the back wall?

                    2.) you say:

The hitting mat and turf are really nice and the screen is amazing.
Which hitting mat/turf are you using, it looks really nice! and what sizes are they? I'm trying to find a little way to cut some cost moving forward as I've dumped far too much into this at this point... building materials are sky high, as you know!

3.) The side curtain in your picture... are those large pieces of fabric, where did you find them, and what size are they? How close are they hanging from the wall, I've heard recommendations of 4", but I can't imagine 4" will be far enough to stop a flying shank, ever experienced that?

4.) you don't mention it in your profile, but what LM are you using, is that a Uneekor, or Foresight Hawk? I would guess Hawk if you are playing E6, but never know?

                    Thanks,

                      1) My screen hangs 1 foot from the back wall and is tensioned using bungee cords. The ball hit quite quietly and there is no bounce back.

                      2) My hitting mat is 5' X 10' and is centered 10' from the screen. It is about 1 3/8" thick. The turf is 9' x 15' and butts against the hitting mat. It is about 3/8" thick. The extra goes up the wall behind the screen. I used foam gym mats under the turf to bring it up to the same level as the hitting mat. I know it doesn't make a difference if the hitting mat and turf are the same level, but I wanted it that way just for appearances and feel.

                      3) The side screen is not a curtain but a golf mesh. It is 10' x 7'. It hangs from a 1 1/2" slotted angle attached to the ceiling. The net is attached using heavy zip ties and hangs 6" from the walls.

                      4) I am using the Uneekor EYE XO LM and still trying to work out some bugs with accuracy. There is some weirdness in the readings. I'm struggling with it reading my AW, PW and 9I as all hitting the same distances. Despite bad hits, I have a good general idea of the distances I hit (Over 130 rounds of actual golf this year) These 3 clubs are gapped at about 10 yards, but the EYE XO reads them as hitting all roughly the same distance.

I bought all of my equipment as a package at my wife's insistence and the supplier never supplied a source/name for anything so I can't be helpful there.

In my research I found many sources and recommendations for mats, screens, nets and other things which could be sourced for thousands less, but I was overruled by my better half.

The construction was insane. When I was younger I built many houses and know every aspect of construction, but I'm not young now and couldn't do the work myself. It is impossible to hire workers here so I finally decided to hire a friend to do the build. The cost of materials was staggering and some things were impossible to get regardless of price. Windows, doors, siding and many other materials had a 12 plus week backlog. Sub contractors are charging rates that would make a lawyer blush and to top it off, we had a couple weeks of torrential rains just as excavation started.

I wish you good luck with your build and would help if I could, but there are many here who know much more than I so you can search here. There are many opinions and recommendations so be ready to sift through vast amounts of information.

Very nice, thank you Questor -

1.) ah yes... you're at 1' from back wall, as most are, I'm doing everything I can to gain just 4" less from that back wall, I'll let you know how it works out .

2.) love how the turf/hitting/stance mat match...

3.) I'm not sure what 'golf mesh' is, is that like 'netting'? It appears it might be, and I would guess it is like high speed golf netting, but when I look at it, appears more like a canvas curtain material? I'm really curious if it stops balls at 6" from the screen - as I think you said a few times that you've not hit any over there, but you think it will be fine? I see how it's mounted up top with the angle iron, thank you. Have you not had any balls sky up and hit the angle iron? Maybe I'm worrying about things that might not ever happen, but when I was testing out my R10 LM into a net (7' high by 10' wide) in my yard I immediately skied a driver over the net into my neighbors yard! So, trying to avoid a ball hit like that coming back at me, even though it rarely happens.

4.) I've heard/seen all good things about Uneekor, but nothing like that with the numbers on wedges? Maybe someone else up here can help you out on that... I assume you use dots on balls?

Wow - great that you have a better half that also loves the game, or cares enough to tell you how to pick things out, I'm happy for you. My spouse has nothing to do with it, and won't even touch a club... which makes it a little frustrating/confusing when trying to involve our children in the game.

You're right though the sourcing can save thousands, but also eat up enough time to cost you thousands that you might not have... Fortunately I'm time rich right now, long enough to want to get this whole build over with and start playing a LOT of sim golf, probably every day... I've been piecing together everything I need, and still undecided on back/side netting/curtains, and protection behind net (likely memory mattress toppers, or something similar).

Hey, I feel like you, though I did very little construction in my life earlier, always finding it to be quite tiring and lacked motivation, until my father-in-law helped us completely gut a bathroom, remodel/move our kitchen, and move a stairwell in our old house: all about 10 years ago... though now he's dealing with rotator cuff issues and even friends I try to enlist just are either too old, or not interested in working, for any amount of money. So, I'm stuck going it alone - I'm studying a few really great books on 'Shed Building' that I've used to help a lot, even telling me which nails/fasteners to use, how to space them, and how to 'hang' siding.

OMG, yes, the weather as you mention 'torrential rains', I was racing snowfall, which is to come tonight, to get all the outside work done, which I've nearly completed. Now, to get the heating going and do the rest of the work inside the building will probably feel like a dream compared to the really physical last 2 weeks working outside nearly every day, at least there was no rain and it heated up nicely (into the 50's-60's) some days... This construction market is a flipping nightmare as you say... and I just want to finish and get on with playing, my swing can't be getting better with all the hammering, sawing and cutting I've been doing.

Thanks for the info and help... I really like how you have the hardwoods bumping right up to your mat on the sides... great work there, did your supplier call for that or did you make the decsion? Also that cabinet for the computer, that has your keyboard on, and are those audio patch cables in that outlet box? Those little things like that make builds look so much better... I may not get there at first, as I'm so eager to start hitting! Enjoy... maybe I'll see you up on TGC2019, if you play that.
