  • Hitting Mat or hitting strip for new simulator floor

I am building a new home and have a space for a simulator in the lower level. I was curious to get opinions on whether I should use a hitting strip or a larger hitting mat that you could also stand on while hitting? We will be building a subfloor so that the mat/strip will be level with the rest of the floor either way.

I’m planning to use the eye xo simulator. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

You have to stand on something other then the bare floor. You need some kind of mat to try and make the feel in your feet similar to a real golf course. Best solution would be a mat with a replaceable hitting insert so if/when you wear it out you don't have to replace everything.

Hi Brody. Our favorite way to do high-end studios is a subfloor with 1" EVA foam interlocking exercise tiles, covered in our Grass-Tex Money Putt turf, then cut in a Holy Grail 12x30" hitting strip, which is a perfect match of both the turf and the height. Ends up looking fantastic, putting great, and you'll get good ball flights and injury prevention with the HG strip.

Good point Ron GungHoGolf , I just ordered 144' of the 1/2" exercise mats. I will be covering mine with Grass-Tex Club Champion (with padding already on it), which I already have. All that will be on top of 3/4" plywood. Do you have a preferred turf to use for fringe/chipping that surrounds a putting/hitting area? I'm planning on 1'-3' of that longer turf to practice chips on surrounding 3 sides of my sim, all except the back/screen.

Brettster - we like Grass-Tex's Soft Landing turf (https://grass-tex.com/product/soft-landing/) which is 1 1/8" nylon (won't mark up clubs if you swing on it). A more affordable option is their Chippers Choice (https://grass-tex.com/product/chippers-choice/) which is 1" polypropylene. As a Grass-Tex dealer, if you email us and hello@gunghogolf.com, we can give you a quote - don't have those on our website.
