Benq TH671st owners- Question for ceiling mount setup

I just ordered the above projector for my sim build. I have yet to erect my screen enclosure, but hope to get advice on how far down from my ceiling (for purchasing a projector ceiling mount) this needs to be to work for me.

My info:

Ceilings are 10' 4"
Screen size is 8' tall, 10' 6" wide
The enclosure will be ~4' from the screen towards the golfer
I will be using the Mevo+ with iPad (4:3 ratio)

I want to make sure I don't mount the projector too close to the ceiling to where my enclosure will block the image from the projector.

Your projector height should be very close to the height of the image.

You will need an extension to bring the projector height down from the ceiling.

you should get a laser level to make this easier to do, helps find the exact line for top of lens as well as screen center,, depth for ceiling mount, etc.. just mounted mine (BenQLU935ST), assuming process is pretty close. The top of the projector lens needs to be in line with the top of the screen edge. So if your ceilings are 10'-4" and the top of your screen is 8', you will need to have the mounting pole + attachment arms + height of the projector from edge to lens = 2'4'

If I'm understanding this correctly, my projector needs to be at 8' off of the floor (top of screen)? It can't be higher up and adjust the image? That scares me being that low. Maybe it's nothing to worry about.?.? Sorry, I'm new to projecting images, but I assumed I could have the projector higher than that.

BTW, My diagonal size will be ~160" which I believe would bring my projector to screen throw to ~10' 9" if I am doing this correctly.

Some projectors offer large amounts of vertical lens shift to help with this but your issue is the enclosure. The enclosure overhang is going to block a top section of the image unless you drop the projector down in height. The standard position for the projector is usually above where the ball would be, meaning you would never come close to hitting it with a club. If you are going to hit from an off-center position on the screen then yeah you need to mark it on the ceiling and swing a few times to make sure you're not going to hit it.

With a straight top on your enclosure, the only way for the light beam to get from the projector lens to the top of your screen is to have the lens at or below the height of your screen. 8' off the floor is safe for the projector if it's on the ball-target line - otherwise, you'll need to test your swing with short and long clubs to make sure it's safe.

For a 4:3 aspect ratio with an 8' tall image, your lens to screen distance should be between 9'9"-11'9" (since the TH671ST has optical zoom).

Just throwing my thoughts around:

If I don't use the enclosure as intended and just use it as a screen frame (no side or top enclosure) can I use the vertical keystone to correct the image if I were to place the projector higher?

This way I could create a padded slope above the screen that would stop any high wedge shots and wouldn't interfere with the image. I would then use curtains on the sides for miss hit shots that go right or left.

Once I get the projector, I will certainly put it in place and see if there is any danger of us hitting it with our clubs and I will have a much better idea of how it will work. Right now I'm just trying to imagine how all of this will come together.

Yes, you can mount that projector up to several feet higher than the screen and square the image with vertical keystone. Note that the entire image will shrink some as keystone is dialed in, so your throw distance will get modestly longer the more keystone you add. I'd mount it at the far end of the throw distance so you'll have room make it bigger with the zoom.
