  • AV/electrical rough for dedicated rm

Hi guys- just started on a full build for a dedicated sim room
in my detached garage and got the partition wall framed this weekend. I am now onto rough electrical and AV before insulating and Sheetrock/paneling.
    1) I am wondering if I need to run anything besides power and hdmi to the projector location? Do you all have any suggestions on conduit for low voltage from the computer area to projector?
    2) are there any networking gurus who can provide some guidance on best networking setup for my situation? The house has Orbi mesh with 3 satellites, there is a decent signal in the garage but I am thinking of adding a 4th satellite there and then connecting the computer directly to that satellite? Would this provide more stability over just using the Wi-Fi? Direct connection to the router is not possible.
    3) getting ahead of myself here but would be interested in some input on how any of you would go about screen attachment in this room. I am not doing any sort of enclosure and the room is 12’6 wide stud to stud, 10ft ceilings. I am thinking 9x12 p2p screen and was thinking I could basically attach bundles right to the framing members/blocking, or maybe first adding angle iron/metal strut up both walls and across the ceiling and then attaching to that for added stability. Pictures attached to give a better idea of what I’m working with
    Appreciate any input!

I added speakers and lighting after the fact would have been much easier to plan.

For networking, I would recommend running ethernet to both the computer location and the projector location. It's very cheap and easy when the framing is open. I also ran a "smurf tube", which i just a flexible blue conduit from the computer location to the projector location. This helps in case technology changes down the road.
For hanging the screen, I will be doing a build post in the next two weeks or so. I have a similar situation with a framed room. I drywalled it all with 5/8 drywall and created a frame out of 2x6 and 2x4 to hang grommetted screen. My build post will have a bunch of photos.

Cool AgileMike - looking forward to your post with pics... I'm deep in to my install now and my post is up 'Sim Shed - Finally'. I like your idea of smurf tube, where'd you buy that - big box?

I may consider it, but my walls from computer to where projector will be are 1/2 up at this point. Luckily I placed 1 1/2" foam iso board insulation in the spaces, so I have some room in there if I want to run cabling, but I was hoping to do it all via direct cabling, likely running up walls. I may pull some through now that you mention that - likely HDMI.

This may be a dumb question but what does the projector use Ethernet for? Would the Ethernet plugging into an Orbi satellite be a good method since I cannot run Ethernet from the router itself? The building is detached and across the driveway.
look forward to seeing your screen build

I used central vac PVC pipes as conduit between ceiling and computer. See my post https://golfsimulatorforum.com/forum...or-hdmi-cables They are lighter than regular schedule 40 PVC pipes and cheap. You can get them at Home Depot but only certain Home Depot stock them. You may need to check around. Don't forget to use long sweep elbow to make it easier to fish wire around corners.

Great tip pathfindr - I'll look for some of that central vac piping next time I'm at Depot - I seem to visit there about every few days!
