Gungho will ship you a 1 foot tall strip of black fabric to put at the top of the screen. It has velcro already and you just have to buy velcro tape to attach it to the roller. Then the screen will have velcro to attach to the bottom of the black fabric.

I bought the screen from Par2Pro and am trying to figure out how to attach it to the roller. So this might be the way to go? Glue a velcro to the roller and then sew another velcro to the screen.Originally posted by awalk21 View PostComment

In summary, the 5 main retractable choices seem to be GungHo prefab, MeTechs DIY, MeTechs prefab, and Par2Pro/SportsScreen Stealth prehab and SportsScreen DIY (put your own screen on the back of a hockey Sportscreen without the Par2Pro screen integration).. It sounds like you get what you pay for to a degree although you still need to mount the rollers to the ceiling or wall in any case. Has anyone tried one of these and switched for some reason to another? Each of these approaches seems to have proponents.
It sounds like you can't really go wrong with GungHo or SportsScreen Stealth but with my budget I'm debating whether to save some money on this part of the build with one of the other options and then and spend more money in moving from 1080P to 4K on the projector. I guess the cheapest would be SportsScreen DIY, handcrank with curtain rods and commando cloth on the side instead of rollers.Comment

I am also leaning towards Metechs. I have to be able to put cars in my garage, so the retractable is key.
Their pricing is hard to resist. For a 12 ft wide screen and motor, its just over $800. Even if the screen isn't as great as some of the others, its still a fantastic deal. I don't mind some DIY to put it together and hang.

Where is this MeTechs sizing/pricing coming from? The biggest screen/motor all in one i see is the 105” one (so just under 9 feet), and it’s coming in at ~$760 plus shipping. Still a good deal, but where is the 12 foot for $800 that’s been referenced a couple of times? I’m trying to decide between getting it all from MeTech vs doing motor and screen separately, but 12 for 800 would probably push me over that way.Comment

I have had good luck corresponding with them directly. As a DIY solution, their website isn't the greatest. But they do answer all my questions within a business day. Yeah, ended up reaching out directly and got a quote for a 10 foot DIY option (heavy duty roller plus screen) for $749. Which is basically the same price (~$5) as their prepackaged ~9 foot one. What they haven’t been super helpful with is the actual differences between those two options. Is it in the actual hardware itself? How much harder is installation? Greetings, I'm planning my first simulator and there is a lot of good info on this forum. I'm going to use an extra "bonus room" in the basement. It is 13' x 20' x 10 high room so just should be plenty big. I plan on using the MeTech roller screens with the weight bars on the bottom in a pocket. The premium 3ply on the front wall on the heavy duty roller and the single ply on the side walls with regular rollers. The BenQ LU710 projector seems perfect for this space. Can you take a look at this layout and provide suggestions / feedback? I also have a few questions:- What is a good way to protect the ceiling? I have a sprinkler head and two recessed lights to incorporate.
- What is the recommended hitting mat? I tend to like the ones that have a removable hitting area.
- I'm going to start with a Garmin R10 and see how that goes

I bought the MeTech system (1 main, and a left and right side roller). The GungHo one was out of my budget.
I'm very happy with the purchase.
That being said, you definitely can't go wrong with GungHo, I have two of their Holy Grail hitting mats and they are fantastic. Additionally their customer support is out of this world.Comment

I’m in the same boat guys. When I contacted Metech the response I got to “is the impact screen 4K capable” left me a little uneasy. I’m assuming as with anything you buy, you pay for what you get. I think I’m going with Kevin at Gung Ho.

I'm working on my sim space 2.0 and looking to upgrade to the retractable screen. I'm leaning towards the DIY MeTech option as I have an existing screen from my current static sim build. I was hoping those that have the DIY experience could help clarify a few things that I still can't put together based on the posts
My screen will be just under 14' wide and the height will be just over 8' 3" (I know it's lower than ideal but I've been hitting in the space for a few years just fine). I have curtains that I pull out on either side so I don't need side retractable rollers.
Questions- It wasn't clear how you attach a screen to the roller, does anyone have any specific advice or pictures?
- One of the posts mentioned a velcro strip and a 1 foot black fabric strip, what was this used for?
- For weighing the screen down, I saw some people would sew a pocket at the bottom of the screen, but what would you put in that pocket? how heavy of a filler needs to be in there? Do you remove that weight when retracting the screen back up?
- I don't want to lose much height, if I attach the roller directly to the ceiling, does anyone know how much space (height) I lose before the projectable area?
