  • New addition for golf room roughed in - suggestions sought

I've roughed in a dedicated room for a new simulator (pics attached!). Unusual aspects compared to pics that I've seen of other setups:
    • My ceiling starts at 10'3" on the short side and goes to 12' on the tall side against the house.
    • The room is 15'6" from short side to the house, but it goes another few feet to the left of where the impact screen will go (an exterior door will be at the end of that). So I could do a wider screen, it just wouldn't be centered in the main 15'6" room width.
      • For perspective, the two boards that are standing up by each side of the room where the impact screen will be are 15' apart, from outer edge to outer edge.
I would love suggestions from the forum on dealing with those unusual aspects. Screen sizing is one aspect, but also whether to
    1. add a soffit to at/near the top of the impact screen area to square up the top of the enclosure material (basically framing in the screen for about 5'-10' using the walls and soffit for an enclosure) or
    2. leave the sloped ceiling alone through the whole room right up to the screen such that balls hitting above the screen hit padding on a very small soffit or material that would need to be hung to duplicate a soffit (can't have balls going over the screen, after all).
    Thanks for any suggestions!

Create the biggest screen possible and put something to protect the ceiling above it. You can put baffles or padding on the ceiling. From 10 feet ball to screen only lob shots will hit about a 9 foot tall screen.

Some decisions have been made! We're going to keep the screen within the width of the main room, keep the sloped ceiling the whole way, get a BenQ LK936ST projector (first thing ordered), and do track lighting above the mat.

Electrical is finishing up this week, speaker wiring will need to go in soon. Where do people who do surround sound typically mount a front center speaker? Behind the screen can't be great sound.

Mount the centre speaker in the ceiling 5ft from the wall maybe between the joints. this way it wont get hit, but put a metal speaker cover over it and keep a spare just in case. If you put up baffles you should be ok. Just an idea for you.

            jboguth - looking good...

I have an odd shape roof/ceiling (gambrel) in my shed, see this post where I covered it all with commando cloth and home-made baffles (draped commando cloth):
Hi Everyone, I'm starting this post as a way to keep myself accountable. The tasks are huge, but not insurmountable as I'm having to do all my build work by myself. Contractors are either non-existent in this post-pandemic marketplace, or they have so much work they are 3 months out! I'll be posting up here as I make

Here's where you can buy Commando Cloth:
Chicago Canvas & Supply's 16 oz. Black Commando Cloth is an economical fire resistant fabric ideal for masking. Available from 4'6"- 9'10". Order online.
