Enclosure Design

Hi Everyone,

We are renovating our house and I was thinking of building a Simulator Room on our roof top. I want to do a projector based simulator space. My current launch monitor is a Mevo Plus, but considering that technology changes, it could very well be something else entirely in 5 years time. I would love to get something like a Uneekor Eye XO but it is simply too expensive today, and may be more affordable down the years so I want to ensure my build is future proof and not designed around a launch monitor. What size room/enclosure would you recommend? I was thinking of doing 15'x10'x12' for internal dimensions. I would have loved to get a 20 foot Well Putt Matt into the room, and even though I have the space, the wife will likely kill me if I make such a large room or spend the extra building it. As it is, she wants me to try and figure out a foldable solution so she can get the space when she wants. I am not sure this makes sense though.

Are there any resources you would recommend to research the building materials? I'm trying to figure out viable options before zoning in on a decision based on the best value for my money.

I will say that while you have great height, your width at 10 feet and length at 15 feet are right on the recommended minimums. Not saying you cannot do this but if you have more space, I would strongly encourage you to consider longer and ideally wider. I cannot quite tell if this is exterior build or an addition - obviously very different applications. Assuming this is an addition, I would highly recommend consulting one of the professionals who design these kinds of installations. You will get lot's of DIY input here, but given this is a purpose-built environment you would be well served with getting this kind of input.

Par2Pro, GungHoGolf , and Carl's Place all have provided a lot of help to a lot of folks around here and all would be a highly recommended place to start but there are many others. Also, spend some time searching through this site. Many unique designs all creatively solving specific problems and lots of great ideas! Enjoy the journey!

Thank you for the input Jason. I will research the three resources you have suggested and will reach out at the correct time. We've been going back and forth about the space for the build for several months now and there are still things that are in flux. I had a nice exposed brick room in mind on the terrace as a new structure and I don't have a problem increasing size to 18'x15' so this area might be ideal. Unfortunately the wife has one more thing she wants to do in the house and it might be workable, but, it will take this space away. Incase that happens, the only other space I can use is my office/den area where I have a tight 15'x8.5'x10'. I have very limited options for increasing this space but will see what is possible here. I might be able to increase the length to 20 feet but the width will be next to impossible.

While the actual build is a year away, I need to figure out a solution in the next couple of weeks as drawings and plans have to be submitted for approval before the end of the month. Incase the space gets constricted and there is no other choice, I am prepared to sell the Mevo + and buy a Skytrak + if the device is good. Sadly our zoning laws are extremely strict, otherwise we have a space that would allow me a 25'x20'x10' room, but that puts me a bit higher than the permissible building height and it would never get approved.
