    Retractable screen movement

So I am thinking to swap out my Carl’s DIY enclosure that I have had for the past couple of years to a retractable screen and side curtains. I really like the enclosure but I want to set up a garage gym also.

I am starting to plan and wanted to see how far most of you have to keep you retractable screens away from your garage door or wall? My enclosure is currently about 18” off my back wall but I will be installing the retractable 180 degrees out so that I will be hitting towards my garage door.

Any help or suggestions will be appreciated!

My retractable screen is about 20 inches from the wall. The bottom weight of your screen will probably determine how far away from the wall you want to be. It’s kind of a balancing act. Too heavy bottom weight can have a trampoline effect and send the balls back at you stronger than you may like, but light bottom weight can allow for low screamers to really swing the screen back, possibly into the wall if you’re mounted too close.

Thank you! I had to remove about 1/2 of the bungees around my Carl’s preferred to get the balls to drop about 3 feet from the screen.

Mine is about 20" from my wall - which is plenty unless you hit one right near the bottom. Learned that the hard way with a bounce back into the gut. I'd suggest you avoid that .
My screen is free hanging on sides and bottom, but I've put a long foam block along the bottom to catch any low burners and that's worked well. About an 8x8 inch foam rectangle running the length, sitting flush to the back of the screen. I've considered a couple of anchors in the floor to avoid the annoying issue where the screen picks up a bit over the foam and I have to tug it back to get it flat, but hasn't been annoying enough to figure out how to do it in the garage floor.
