help with installation -electronics hookup

first off , just joined the site , hope to learn alot .. thanks for having me .. Got my sim built for my nephews to use , , (I had space to convert a room /they didnt at their house ) They will be joining the high school golf team this coming spring so hoping this will help them ....... my question is ... How do i hook up my new HP laptop to both my TV AND my projector at the same time .. Im old school (62) , so not too saavy on computers etc .. just wanting the projector and TV both to mirror whats on the computer , like most have .. I bought a 2-1 splitter and 2 quaulity HDMI cables , but that didnt work ... it wont recognize them , I can hook up the TV or the projector one at a time with the HDMI cable, then they will show in the inputs screen so I can select the proper unit and it works just fine on the single unit ... ... please help . the injuns are getting restless...thank you .

Need more information on the HP laptop. Hopefully it has multiple outputs, possibly an HDMI and DisplayPort if it's a gaming machine. You'll want to avoid any splitter and use the multiple ports. There's a chance you could run through a docking station as well where it may connect via a single USB-C and then run two HDMI out of the docking station to your TV and Projector.

the computer has 2 usb ports and 1 HDMI port for sure ...its not a gaming machine ,,,I was trying to use a splitter for the HDMI . a buddy was here last night and had it working with a splitter and went to change the resolution and we lost it . he cant remember what he did to get it now ...so Im definately ready for some tech help ...

though have a look at the list of laptops it does/doesn't work on in the description. Amazon returns are pretty generous, so you can always send back if it doesn't work
2) sounds like they are high school aged kids, letting them figure out the IT side of it might be an easy win win

If you can share the specific laptop model, then we might be able to figure something out beyond that.

HDMI splitters can be notoriously glitchy. The link Stubious provided above may work or, even better, if you can find one that is powered, those tend to be a bit more reliable.

I realize I'm not answering the Original Poster's question, but here's my 2¢:

I'd recommend buying a new PC to run your sim. Trying to drive 2 monitors from an older "non-gaming" laptop is going to be a challenge even if you run a normal resolution, nothing "high" or "ultra".

If you have room, buy a tower rig that sits on the floor, you can build a very nice tower "gaming rig" for less than half of the cost of a similarly equipped laptop. At minimum, go with a Mid-size case, Full size is even better, but stay away from micro.

In addition, if you really want to drive some impressive 4K video, even a "gaming" laptop is going to develop heat issues, by far, IMHO, the issue that causes the most problems with graphics intensive programs.

thanks for the help guys , the laptop is a brand new HP model 15-dy5033dx ...I was wondering if I could use a USB "C" to HDMI cable to run from the laptop to the TV , and a HDMI to HDMI cable to run from the laptop to the projector?? that way i wouldnt need a splitter ?? I will look for a powered splitter as well..
