I'm excited to have discovered this forum as I embark on my first ever sim build ... there's a wealth of great info here!
Recently moved into a new house with a separate one-car garage that we don't need for a car, so it's a no-brainer to convert it to a golf room!
It's about 14 ft wide x 24.5 ft long (of useable space), 11 ft ceiling. Based on reading online articles and the posts here, I've already pulled the trigger on a few items, but would love input on the others:
Already got the Bushnell Launch Pro launch monitor and intend to run GSPro software. Ordered a gaming desktop PC as well. Bought a Holy Grail hitting strip which I plan to insert into the gym mat tile/Home Depot astroturf DIY mat that I've seen others here use.
One question I have ... what's the best base for the gym mats? I've seen a few different answers here and now leaning toward building a platform of 2 x 4s and plywood for two reasons:
1. Garage not precisely level for drainage ... I've seen others reference this. Does that difference (we're talking a fraction of an inch at the point where I'll have the hitting strip) affect the accuracy of the BLP?
2. Wondering about airflow on the concrete floor. I had a home gym in the basement at our old house with gym mats directly on the basement concrete and noticed a moldy/musty buildup over time. I'm no scientist or builder but assumed it had something to do with the natural humidity and contrasting temps of the concrete and surrounding air.
So, leaning toward following some of the posts here in building a platform but was open to any advice or explanations as to my thinking.
Planning to get a Carl's DIY enclosure kit. Still looking for impact screen and projector ... open to suggestions on any of that.
Thoughts? Anything else I need to consider?
Thanks in advance for your help ... really excited to get this project going!
