  • Screen Size and 4:3 v 16:9

Hi everyone, I’m on decision number 58372937 and I’m stuck.

some have recommended 4:3 9ft x about 10’6, (approx) in this configuration I would be almost to the ceiling and screen would be totally filled (at 4:3).

someone else has said I’d be better with 16:9 and a 12 ft x 7.5 (approx) which would not fill the top and bottom of the screen. It would be wider and 16:9.

i can’t picture it (pun not intended), both seem equally convinced their version ‘best’ and I’m equally confused ha!

any thoughts or ideas or has anyone similar setups they wouldn’t mind sharing the look of?

I designed and built my room based on the concept of maximizing its size to achieve an edge-to-edge screen experience. I determined that a 16:10 aspect ratio was optimal, 16:9 was acceptable, and 4:3 was the least preferred. With a fixed ceiling height of 10 feet, I constructed the room to accommodate a 16:10 screen, resulting in a highly immersive viewing environment. I'm very happy with the outcome.

Takeaway; build it as big as you can!

      4:3 at 9’ tall is 12’ wide, not 10’6”.
      16:9 at 12’ is 6’9” tall, not 7.5’.

What are the maximum dimensions of the wall you are looking to project towards? You will need to subtract some for the screen connection. How much depends on your method.

Thank you! Good point. So maximum dimensions of the wall is 16 x 9’4
