About to start building a set up using Carl Enclosure. I bought basic turf from Home Depot (about 0.3 inches tall and will span the entire sim area more or less) and have a 5x7 Carl's Mat arriving in a week. Mat is 1.75" tall. I notice that many people level the turf so it is same height as mat. Is that strictly for aesthetic reasons?

Why level mat and turf to each other?

If the mat and the hitting strip are not at the same level then it's like hitting from a sidehill lie or changing the lie angle of your clubs. Either way it will affect the ball flight starting direction.Originally posted by GolferinPA5 View Post
The mat is level. I'm referring to making the mat the same elevation as the hitting mat.

I would recommend that the hitting surface is at the same elevation as your feet. It's awkward if the hitting strip is higher than your feet and will affect your ball flight. Also, it's nicer to have everything at the same level otherwise you might trip or stub your toe if you aren't looking.
