  • How to Combine a Golf Sim & Home Theater

I am building a golf sim in my garage but I want to be able to also use it as a theater as well. The main challenge is where to mount speakers when they can’t get impacted by the golf balls.

My idea is to mount them overhead the hitting area, but with the ceiling mounted launch monitor and the projector, it is hard to visualize it all fitting where it should.

Has anyone done this and could post pictures or advice to help me out ?

Has anyone put speakers behind the screen, maybe in the corners? Bad idea? Is the Carl’s place premium screen acoustically transparent enough ?

I could also put speakers above the screen but I would need to protect them with material that would be acoustically transparent yet impact proof. Anyone have any ideas for this ?

I did something similar with the main rear speakers placed above the screen and the subwoofers at the bottom in the corners.
The speakers above the screen are protected by an archery net that covers the whole area above the sim.
I also have some slimline kef speakers directly behind the screen and at the front edges of the enclosure.
2 rear speakers behind the sitting area and 4 overhead atmos 'egg' speakers to complete the setup.
As far as i can tell from testing with and without the screen in place, the fabric is relatively acoustically transparent (screen bought from golfsimaustralia)
The worst part is the wiring. You'll need to plan things ahead of time to make installation a bit easier...

That's an incredible space. Well done.

Wow, adilgolf, that setup is indeed amazing! The curved screen allows for a lot of space on the left and right.

My screen won’t be curved but I’m thinking even with a regular Carl’s built in screen that is 12” from the wall behind it, I could place some low profile speakers near the edges. The screen will flex deepest in the center, but on the edges it shouldn’t flex inward much at all. They make some low profile speakers that I’m looking at that are 3.5” in depth, that should still leave 8.5” of room, plenty.

If these screen materials are acoustically transparent enough, this should work well.
