  • Attaching wall panels

    Hello

I m building wall panels with 2inch hr foam, 1/2 plywood and 600g/m2 marine vinyl leather. 80cmx52cm (31inchx20). The 24 Panels will probably be around 4kg / 8 lb each.
I m looking at the cheapest and easiest way to attach them to my walls :
    - French cleats (96 to install) : around 120usd
    - neodymium magnet : around 100usd
    - Velcro : not sure it will be resistant enough

Do you have any experience / suggestion to help me in my choice ?
    Thanks

While you have given good information regarding what you want to attach you need to also detail what they will be attaching to.

      Hi. Drywall
i will go for button-fix clips. The easiest and cheapest solution in my eyes

I used beau clips for my panels (https://beauclip.com/), they work well but install took time and it requires a lot of clips even for relatively lightweight panels, i spaced the clips about 20" apart in a grid pattern. My walls were lined in plywood, so it was relatively easy to mount the clips. It would be harder to do so on drywall as the little screws would hardly have any grab on the drywall material... not sure how you plan to affix your 'button-fix' clips to your walls.

If i ever need to do this again, i think i would use French cleats instead. Much easier to assemble, more forgiving and with a lot less drilling involved, plus your wall won't look like Swiss cheese.
