I use Callaway X-Series JAWS wedges at 52/12 and 56/16. Love both of them. They work beautifully from all types of lies for me.

The amount of effective wedge bounce that should be played is closely related to the golf course condition that you play. Soft conditions for both turf and sand would best suit higher bounce conditions while firm conditions are better suited for lesser bounce.

I play most of my rounds on soft turf with firmer sand in the bunkers. That has made me mix bounce conditions on my wedges.

Fhann, is the bounce needed also dependent on the type of short game play, ie digger vs picker. I have been using more bounce in the past 2-3 yrs.

Yes, The amount and type of bounce/sole relief or grind can be applied to help overcome undesirable characteristics of a persons swing, i.e. digger, sweeper, picker, etc. but should be applied in conjunction with turf/sand conditions and the desired trajectories from each.

A buddy suggested that I replace my 20 year old wedges. I asked my guy at Golftown to direct me to a club that is easy to hit and will perform well in different lies. I bought the Taylormade 60 ATV. They don't list the bounce as they promote this club as a variable bounce depending on how open you hit it. As I am not very knowledgeable about wedges, I just nodded my head and bought it. I stopped by the range on the way home and couldn't believe how much easier it is to hit compared to my old wedge. I liked it so much I went back the next day and bought the 56. Trying them out today IRL. Recently I have been laying off the driver on short holes so I can be 120-140 out. Hopefully now I won't have to.

If you learn how to use the bounce around the greens, chipping/pitching is a breeze. Even off hard pan.

I have TM wedges, non-ATV, but I won't go below 10* of bounce now. I used to play a 4* bounce 60* around the greens...and I'd end up stubbing one here and there, espeically when I had a short chip against the grain of the fairway.

The more bounce the merrier.............for those of us who do not possess the skills nor practice time of one Eldrick Tont Woods.
