  • My Optsihot Garage Setup

Completed most of my Optishot setup in my garage. Custom made a platform with four 8' 2x4's, two 2x4' 3/4" plywood sheets and some cheap outdoor carpet. I used thicker teeline turf for the optishot cover and cut up a mat I had that ended up being the same material to cover the gaps in front and behind the sensors. The platform is very sturdy and ended up being the perfect height to match the optishot with the thicker turf. This setup will only be used for a few more years, as we plan on moving during that time and will likely upgrade to a different setup with a projector and impact screen (maybe even ProTee with TGC). This setup has to be easily moved as we still use the garage for my dirt bikes and one of our cars frequently. The rukknet folds up quickly and easily, and the platform can be set against the wall.

Just played a bit on it so far and am still tweaking the club settings to replicate how I typically play. It seems that with the thicker turf, or just the normal settings it shows that I'm driving the ball a lot further than I normally do. I'm a somewhat slow swinger and concentrate on consistent straight shots as much as I can, and so far my optishot is having my drives go anywhere from 220-280yds. Normally I'd say I average closer to 220, with a very good drive being closer to 250 for me. When getting fitted for clubs I'm normally swinging in the 85-95 mph range. My irons are doing the opposite, as I typically make a bit of a divot infront of the ball, and whenever I impact the mat I lose club speed and my iron shots end up being way too short despite making great contact. To make my clubs more realistic I am figuring I need to lower the distance on my driver, and raise them for my irons... still working on getting that dialed in. One frustrating setting I've been struggling with is the offset, for some reason, maybe because of the thicker turf it has almost all my swings showing 5-15 degrees closed and almost every shot hooked to the left. In real life I have a slightly natural slice, so it seems to be doing the opposite of what I normally do. I had to add negative .8 to every club to even it out and get my natural slice back a little, what's worrying is I see a lot of online tournaments don't allow the offset adjustments which could be a deal breaker for me. I've played around with the lighting a bit, and seems that having the ball slightly forward from the mark on the mat is the best spot to get a good 2nd row reading with the thicker turf. I also taped all my drivers and woods which helped get them all calibrated.

Excited to play in some tournaments with some of you and getting my handicap down for real world playing.

Since it has two rows of sensors it only reads speed of clubhead as it passes over both. If you are taking a big divot, it will the slow the clubhead down quite a bit and give you a slow exit speed on the club and therefore a shorter distance. It's probably also closing the clubhead quite a bit as well.

What's odd is that is also does it with my driver when tee'd up, even if I make no contact with the turf. Just want to figure out a way to fix this without having to adjust all my offsets which could limit my tournament participation. Funny how all my shots are going left on optishot when in real life I can't add any draw even when I try with any of my shots.
Working...
