I just wanted to pass along a tip to get Optishot to run on a 4K TV. I just upgraded my computer from a weak little laptop with Intel HD graphics, to an AMD A10 7860K and 16GB very fast 2133 DDR3 ram, 1TB disk $325. The machine drives a 4K monitor, and I hit into a net. Basically that was the setup I needed to work with the R-motion system which comes with the TGC simulator. The TGC software looks really good when compared to my clunky old Optishot (and clunky old laptop). So today, I was bound an determined to get Optishot running on the 4K screen at maximum resolution maximum detail. So in Practice mode, do Settings and Options > Graphics and Video; landscape quality: High, Shadow quality: High. Antialias: 8, check High water quality. Resolution 2560x1440 24Hz (16:9) Aspect Ratio: 16:9 (wide), Check Run Full screen mode.
The glitch with this was It would never go full screen (it was always windowed) with the bottom blanked out, OR it would be go full screen but but displayed the upper left quadrant of the screen zoomed in 4 times normal. So after some hunting I found the hidden configuration file in:
C:\ Program Data\Optishot Golf\Optishot2\app.cfg
As the administrator change the security permissions on the file to Full Access for all Users. Then edit this file with notepad to say:
e_WinWidth 2560e_WinHeight 1440e_WinFreq 24e_AspectWidth 16e_AspectHeight 9eFSAA 8e_FullScreen 1e_UseDesktop 0l_Water2 1r_ShadowMapSize 2048l_WorldTexSize 4096e_AudioNull 0
I think the important parameters in this file are the ShadowMapSize 2048 and WorldTexSize 4096. Or it maybe just changing the permissions on the file helped. Anyway the results were spectacular! It was full screen, aligned perfectly ultra fine detail, trees, grass, fairways and greens all looked great. The trees moved nicely, shadows looked real, the grass moved with the wind. So yes, you can kick the graphics up a notch. It is worth it. It was so good, I didn't need streamers for any of the iron shots. You could actually follow the ball.
When projectors get to be 4K this is going to be fun.
