  • Handicap Index and *** Optishot Tour

    Hey Guys,

Eventually we will be moving towards a Handicap process, this will keep the field close but also encourage players to practice and improve there score..
What I have in mind is a Weighted Handicap: Handicap weighted against the Gross.

Works something like this Player A is a Scratch golfer, Player B is a 20 Handicap, it we use a Weight of 75% handicap and 25% Gross Player B would have a handicap of 15 coming into Tournament.. Player A would stay same because he is Scratch..

This process will always give the edge to the better golfer, and will encourage golfers to improve there score instead of just settling.

The Weights can vary from week to week until we find a weight that is fair for all and keep it tight..

Please let me know your thoughts

    Thanks
    CatMan

Does our hcp system work different from the other flights on the online golf tour. Is a 0 index as low as it gets for us? Hoganwoods seems to be playing with a plus3 in the protee games. Just trying to figure out how the calculations are done. I'm perfectly ok with a 0 minimum... it favours the player who actually plays well instead of the player who just had a good day. On the other hand it does also mean that players with an index will find it very hard to shoot a number that can win a comp. I'm assuming here that there are quite few among us who will be averageing 66-69 per round all year. Handicap calculation is best 5 of last 10. This is something I think we should discuss and then move on after a debate.

Shot 100 the 4th round. Won't be hard to lower that score... LOL

The handicap system isn't mandatory and every league has options to turn it on or off and then set a minimum and maximum index for each player. For example, our snead flight uses the automatic system and assigns indexes between -10 to 20 based on previous games just like it says in Information. Your league the index system is turned off which means its a manual system where an admin can go in and manually assign indexes or leave them all at 0s if they so choose.

I'm going to put forward an idea. Everyone should play off "best 5 of last 10" even if it means that someone has to play off +9. All tournaments could have 2 leaderboards. One for hcp and the other for scr. Points would be given out in every comp to all for both seriesis. 2 races (for points) would be going on simultaniously for the whole year. To be honest I see this current system as being slightly flawed. The hcp croud don't really have a proper bite at the cherry at the moment. Sure they can do well in a single comp but the year long race will be down to the players who "should" be playing off +something. I'm pretty sure that this kind of "something for everyone" style would benefit the community and would also keep everyone interested as everyone would have a legitamate chance every week and every year. There are countless options that could be tryied. This community is only just forming and I see it as very important to have ideas coming from as many players as possible.

By no means am I saying this should happen now or that the great effort that has gone into these sites has been misplaced. Quite the opposite. I feel that the community should come up with ideas together and then implement them if the ideas get sufficient backing.

                Nick,

I would ask for you to please be patient, we have a lot of new golfers and we are trying to get sufficient data to have the system properly evaluate someone's index.. We still have players that are learning how to get more accurate readings from their sensors and so on..

I am leaning for Next Weeks Major to have the Handicap auto calculate for the Players, and using those as the index.. Players that have less then 4 rounds in I will input Manually.. 0 will be the lowest and 18 being the Highest..

This will be fair to all, and not punish players that have work to be sub-par..

As we move towards Season 2 we should be good to go...

                Thanks

                    Aurin,

As hogan said, your league is currently using a manual system. The auto handicap system available for you guys to use is very good and is designed for simulator tournaments. Our ProTee league uses this system and we have limits set at -10 and 20. Then the course handicap is calculated when you select "Play Round".

Half of you guys already have 4+ rounds recorded. Cat would just have to enable the system and set the limits. I would suggest you guys use this system for a few weeks and see how it goes. It's been working pretty good for us. IMO, a scratch league will only cause problems. We've been doing this for 2 years now. So, I'm speaking from experience. In a scratch league, I would not be surprised if most guys will start to shoot -15 every week, a la Tiger Woods on Xbox. That is not what anybody wants I don't think.

But ultimately, it's to use guys and Cat to decide. Have fun guys.

Great stuff. Thanks for the info. The main thing is that these things generate debate and that there is a way for the community to have its say in what direction the system and the community with it go.

                            Nick,

I want a handicap system in place that encourages every player to improve their Game, not to just settle for where they are at, and that is the direction we are going with the handicap Index..

You can see this already going on in the discussions, Players talking about working on their short Game, Taping their Clubs, working on Putting... That's what we like to hear and a good handicap index process will drive this.
