  • I downloaded the Mac version yesterday and tried it last night. Being new to Optishot I guess I have a lot of learning to do in order to get my swing speed correct and ball flight etc. I noticed there was no real informative instructions to do this, am I just not looking in the right place?

    What I am seeing:
    • Driver is always showing extremely closed club face with an Outside/In swing path, even on slow deliberate swings to correct it.
    • Irons are not as bad but similar
    • How does the the offset work? I have the new RSI 1 irons from Taylor Made, gotten the spec from their site and entered them. Seemed the setting is different
      • Example: 4 Iron offset specs from Taylor Made is 5.8mm, is that what I should be entering in optishot for the offset of my 4 iron?
    Any help would be appreciated!!

Hey Jbeck. Welcome. If you search through the forum, you'll see a video on how to tape your driver. This is basically a must with the Optishot in order to get accurate Driver readings. I too was getting unnaturally closed club face readings with my driver. The tape helped along with where I positon my ball on the mat. I have an aftermarket turf for the Optishot that allows you to use a real tee. With that, I was able to just tee my ball up close to the front sensors and it corrected the extreme readings. For me personally, this applies to all clubs on the Optishot. If I place the ball close to the front sensors, I just get more realistic readings.

Thanks for the reply, I will try taping the driver, I did that for my wedges but thought since the driver had a shiny sole that it would be fine. I will try moving the ball up as well!! Also going to check out the taping video, maybe I didn't do that right either....

    • I will also add... Lighting goes a long way. Use direct light with CFL bulbs only. Here is my setup just for reference.

Whatever you're doing seems to be working pretty well! Haha

To add another thing jbeck... Use your offsets in your settings to get your driver representing your real life ball flight as well. Tweaking it some might help.

Yeah, I am still trying to figure out if the offset that we input is in inches or something else, I entered the offsets in mm as per Taylor Made specs but that was way off.

        • Funny thing is I don't use hardly any light at all no shadows,, Just the light for Projector and a very little side light but none on sensors, but I might try your idea so I can have more light..

          • When viewing on a 42 inch screen tv using HDMI the information on the bottom of the tv screen doesn't seem to fit the screen. Does anyone have the correct graphic settings, I am using a Mac book pro computer. I just can't seem to find the correct setting to get it right.

            Thanks

            • Is there any particular lighting requirements that seem to work best? I see different setups and looking to purchase what I need this weekend. Any particular CFL temperature/color range that works best? THANKS

              • Hey buddy , Nice set up ! I notice that your ball is almost next to the lead sensor. Is that where you hit it ? Isnt the actual tee closer to the rear sensor ? Have you tried hitting from the original spot and did you have to change your offsets with a ball further towards the lead sensor ? I ask this because I am always scared of hitting a fat shot into my rear sensor and when the boys come over my opti takes a beating !!!

                Cheers

Yes, I hit with the ball very close to that front sensor. The original tee position didn't work for me due to two reasons: 1) Like you mentioned, it made me very uncomfortable to hit with the ball that close to the rear sensor. 2) It was giving me extremely closed club face readings every time. I think this just varies from player to player. I think it just depends on how you release the club after impact. I had a friend come over last night who is a better than par golfer and he had to move the ball back closer to the rear sensor because he was blocking everything out to the right with it near the front sensor. I think I just release the club earlier than him and the Optishot reads it as a dead pull. So it just depends. And yes, I had to adjust my offsets just a tad with the driver on the front sensor in order to match my real life ball flight on a good swing. The irons however, I did not. I just used the specs listed online for my irons.

I use jagmanjoe's aftermarket turf and I know a lot of people aren't crazy about it because it's so thick. I personally haven't seen that be an issue. It's certainly much more forgiving on the hands and ears than the original Optishot turf. I can take a real tee and stick it down anywhere on that turf that I like. So therefore I tee it up toward the front. I do use a short tee due to the fact that the club head is farther away from the sensors thanks to the very thick turf. The driver is the only club that his turf seems to struggle with, a long tee causes the club to be too far away from the sensors and can cause slow misreads. Using a shorter tee, it's no problem. I wish I had the balls to buy a monster stance mat/turf or something similar and just cut out the places for the sensors and set it underneath it. But I was afraid I would screw it up and waste money.

                        • Fix for Close Face Readings!!!!

Hey Maxxx, you mentioned closed face shots. I was having the same problem and my shots were never consistent. Well I just taped my irons (see attached). This changed everything!!!! Last round I didn't have one misread or crazy face angle reading. Try doing this and let me know if it fixes your issues. At first I was against taping my irons because I would be on the driving range and thought my irons are reading pretty good. But then like you said, you get those crazy closed face readings.

So tape your irons. I guarantee you will have 100% better results!
