I'm going to leave this link here. Feel free to look at it if you'd like. This is the highest swing speeds on tour in 2014. Notice their average and even the fastest swing they recorded in the entire season. The tour average for all players was 113 mph. Optishot isn't perfect and I think we all knew that when we bought it. But with calibration and tweaking, you can make it very representative of your real life results. If you average the same swing speed as some of the longest hitters on tour, then by all means, keep bombing it. But, if you know that your real life driving distance is being grossly overstated, please dial it down. This is supposed to represent a golf simulation as if we were all playing in our local dog fight on Saturday mornings at the club. This isn't meant to be Tiger Woods golf on Playstation. End rant/

Funny how people remember their best shots and those shots become their new average, so they once hit a 7 iron 180 yards now they pull 7 iron all the time for 180 yards and come up short every time! This is v.true in real golf, women dont suffer this problem apparently, its a men macho thing, best way to get ur handicap down? Play an extra club!

We had very similar issues last year, and actually vega, I posted something very similar then as well. It's a tough to try and balance out what works in SIM world vs real golf and you guys will get through it. Hogan also brings up a great point that most people have no idea what their actual average carry is, as people, we usually remember only the good ones. You gotta figure out what makes it fun and realistic at the same time. Like I said, you guys will figure it out and it will get better.Last edited by HWoods; 12-16-2014, 08:19 PM.

I understand where you are coming from. But....
Now.... Hitting it v. long has always been my number one asset. My short game has been more or less crap for 20 years now but I was able to play close to scratch golf for around ten years because I was hitting 2-3 clubs less with my approach.
I'm set up at 100% speed and 100% distance. Yes... I'm now hitting it further than in real life in Optishot.... But so is everyone else... I see this as something DD has to fix. Not something we should all "fix to match our in real life shots" Either we all go to 95% or then we all stay at 100%.
I have a swing sense 3d swing analyser. The results are pretty much 95-96% of the optishot club head speeds every time with the driver. Consistant but slightly over the top.
I had optishot set lower before I joined the tour because it was more realistic. I am hesitant though to tune it down now unless everyone does so.
As I said to John a few days ago. These things are much easier on the course in real life. You hit the ball out of sight and that's that. Your playing partners have to believe it because it happens before their eyes. On the sim it's different. You always get the nagging feeling that this can't be.... How is he doing that?
I'm doing it by hitting the ball v. hard. Optishot is adding a little to that...Last edited by MatalaWedge; 12-16-2014, 10:04 PM.

I have watched several twitch rounds and noticed that a 92 to 96 mph Driver swing speed was generating a carry of 260 to 280 and this was with a side wind and a bit into it, and not down wind. I have a chart that shows the LPGA swing speeds and they hit their Driver with a 94 mph swing and get 220 carry. You might get that up to 230 with the perfect spin but I think that is about right and should be the max.
Just wondering about the system, can you boost the readout of the swing speed or only boost carry?Mountain Time

Hey boys, for the last 3 years the boys and I have been playing skins almost every week at my place and to make it a "simulation" and as realistic as we can we "set" our clubs to match our real games that we all know about eachother. The optishot has helped me improve my real golf game by at least 12 shots ! One of the reasons is that my distances and ball flight are as close to real as possible. (Except for every shot sticking like glue on the greens😂). This will never be the same as real golf but I would hope that eveyone tries to match their real game as much as they can.
Cheers boysLast edited by Maxxx; 12-16-2014, 11:23 PM.Www.onlinegolftour.net

One thing we need to be careful of is not to try to over analysis this simulator, That is what P3 did and they are screwing it up in my opinion. This is a Club tracker not a ball tracker, it is a basic as can get.. The 2.5 update has been there best yet... There is no advantage in the league if everyone keeps there woods no higher than a 100. If you want to have your own presets offline then do it.. But lets not try to make this into a ball tracker. sim. like p3 is trying to do. Also Everyone hits differently. Some pick the ball, well in this case the ball will go further, because the sensors are measuring Club speed. Some guy that hit down on the ball hit the ball at the same speed but their swing speed is lower because its not measuring the Ball, but the club.. Let players adjust there irons t real Life, leave the Woods Alone..

So the DD is not accurate when set at 100. The rules said not to go over 100. But What's wrong with bringing it down to match your real world distances? If everybody's hitting it 320-350 and shooting -20, this will become a video game league and people will quit.
IMO, since it's difficult to regulate people's distances in Optishot, let the handicap do it's job. If a good player shoots -10 a couple of times, he will be a -7 or so and be proud of it. This makes it harder for him to go low again but it gives other guys a chance to win. But they will still need to play well as the handicap will favor the low cap guys.
I don't understand why anybody would spend the time and money to build a simulator and not have it represent your real world distances. How does that help your real golf handicap? Isn't that the ultimate goal?

Heres my point I agree that yes it would be best if the simulator was accurate with the Driver, and yes the honest players will adjust there distance to meet what they have in real life. However the players that don't know what there Distance is, and there are many out there, that will say they have that Tigerwoods Distance, and how is anyone going to discredit it.. If you have a Set Percentage that all players can not go over. It real easy to Monitor. and keep players to minimum standard..

I agree with you guys. The way you hit the ball, fat, topped, thin . How high from the sensors you hit (DD's stock turf is almost half and inch higher than the sensors) after market turf could be almost 2 inches thick ! The lighting and how you tape your clubs can all affect your results. The best thing about optishot is that if you really know your distances and natural ball flight , you can tweak the software pretty darn close so it's really a personal choice if you want reality or you want to hit the ball 350 yards !! Wait until DD comes out with a LongDrive contest 😄I bet guys will be hitting it 600 yards !

So when settings are at default or 100% for woods, are you really able to hit a 280 yard carry with a 96 mph swing speed. That's more than a 20% boost then at default.
So again for info sake, if you boosted the woods to the max with any or all settings, is there a limit to what you would get for carry (not roll but carry only) with a 96- 100 mph swing speed?Mountain Time

Maximum carry distance with a driver is 2.5 yards for each mile per hour of club head speed when the club head speed is around 100 mph. This cannot be exceeded when using a COR legal driver at 0.83, temperature at 70 degrees F, seal level elevation, and no wind. It can only be achieved with a perfect center face contact, proper angle of attack, proper static loft, proper dynamic loft, and finally ideal backspin.Originally posted by SFR View PostSo when settings are at default or 100% for woods, are you really able to hit a 280 yard carry with a 96 mph swing speed. And Players that turn it up to drive long doesn't mean they are going low they still got to hit an approach and get up and down...
I have probably the Shortest drive out here other than Ray C, and still manage to put up wins....
optishot is a Fun Simulator that helps keep your swing loose in the off season, we need to keep to that and not try to make it more than it is..
Now if Optishot wants to give us an option to control swing settings now we can have a discussion.... They can be preset for a Tournament going in, no need to police it...Last edited by CatMan; 12-17-2014, 02:38 AM.
