  • Newb has some questions

Just set up my optishot a couple weeks ago and have played a few rounds with decent results. Bought it mostly to play some "golf" during the winter with some friends. I am probably going to upgrade to SkyTrak (with R-motion) in the futrue, but for now would like to dial in the Optishot the best I can, so have a few questions.

My setup is in the garage, with blacked out windows. LED light bulbs right above the sensors, no shadows at all. I bought the better grass topper online, which I really like, can't imagine hitting off the turf that comes with the system. Built a stance pad so the optishot slides right in and am level with the system. Out of the few rounds I have play I have only had 2 times when the sensors didn't pick up my swing. I have run through the calibration for all of my clubs and set the average distances to what I normally hit each club when I normally play.

    My questions:
    - How do I get other clubs to show up in my clubset? I would like to add the gap wedge to my bag and remove the hybrid. I set the hybrid distance to 999 since that is what the optishot site says to do to remove it from your bag, but it doesn't give me a choice of adding another club. When I edit my clubset I see the gap wedge in the drop down list, but can't get it to come up in my bag.

    - Club distances: as I mentioned, I added my average distance for each club so the auto caddy picks the correct club, but I am routinely hitting the tee shots at least 20 to 30 yards farther than normal (normally hit a 7 iron 175 and hit it over 200 the other day). Seems like hitting off the turf (fairway) is a little more accurate. Are the longer shot considered "mis-reads"? Should I mess with the speed and/or distance percentages to try and dial it in? When everything comes together and the distances are accurate it's really fun. But when I hit a drive 343yds with a swing speed of 137, it not as fun cause I know I would never be able to do that :-) I have not taped any of my clubs since the sensors seem to pick them up ok. I do have black gaffer tape and white reflector tape if taping my clubs would help?

    - Is there any way to play locally with handicap scoring? I can't seem to find it if there is.

    Thanks very much in advance!

Not sure about adding clubs to your bag but for the distances I would change the speed and distance adjustments to match your distances. For me I found that Optishot was a little short on my distances and feel that 110% on each is best. But that is just me, you will want to mess around and find out what works for you. Optishot has some frustrating things with it and is not as accurate as some of the other higher priced machines. I think the best thing to get out of the Optishot is the club data such as face angle, path and tempo. I was able to lower my handicap by just looking at those numbers. Hope this helps some.

Thanks for the response! Played with the numbers over the weekend and seem to have most of them dialed in.

Did you do anything with the speed and distance adjustments?

It's super tedious... To remove your hybrid you need to change it to the next lowest club in your bag such as your 4 or 5 iron. Then change that club to the next club such as 6 iron ect. Keep changing the clubs all the way down the line until you can add your gap. Just remember to change everything about each club... Offset, loft, name, club type. It's super annoying but it works...
