Does anybody have any good ideas to protect the Optishot sensor when the game is not in use? I can just picture my kids running back and forth across it.. I don't own the game yet but assume it might be just as easy as removing the sensor and replacing it with the section of mat that was removed?

The simplest solution is often the best, and as you say that is the simplest.
If however you wish to leave it in permanently, and also want to make your optihshot experience better (in my opinion) I would advise an aftermarket turf top. It basically sits on top of you sensor pad and raises the surface up with cushioned urethane. it prevents damage to the sensors and body of the sensor pad from club impact, as well as little feet
Could try looking at slickthings.com, Thats where I got mine. if you get yourself setup you could even win one as Joe (the owner and manufacturer fo the tops has donated a couple for prizes on tour )
However for a free and easy solution you could just remove as you suggested. Hope you get yourself setup and look forward to seeing you on Tour soon
