  • PLEASE HELP!

Hi all, new to the forum and the tour and can't wait to get started.

I've been using the Optishot now for a couple of months and my initial setup just meant id play without a ball (foam or real). This was purely down to the fact that whenever I don't use a ball, I seem to get the right club feedback from optishot, however when using any type of ball, optishot shows my hooking 90% of my iron shots, something I can assure you I don't do out on the course, more slice if anything.

I'm no where near the perfect golfer but I know how I hit my shots, or least the majority of them. I contacted optishot who mentioned I need to ensure the light setup is correct. I've tried a few different setups but still the same results. I don't understand how it works perfectly with no ball setup but as soon as I try with any type of ball, I seem to get inaccurate results.

Has anyone else had this issue, or got any suggestions, I know I need to use a ball to participate on the tour so really want to iron this out.

    Thanks

Have you used white duct tape on the bottom of your clubs?

      Hi Nike, welcome aboard.

What you say you get hooks, what sort of face angle and path is Optishot saying you hit, ie 12 degree closed, Inside/Out Path etc

It sounds like a lighting issue, or possibly your irons may need taping if they have irregular soles/are dark or matt coloured.

Also their is currently no requirement to actually hit a ball to be on tour.

Not sure where you're located but happy to go through some setup stuff with you, im EST+5 though (UK based) so if that makes things difficult Im sure any other the League Board Members, or Catman, or indeed any of the Tour Players will be happy to help

As you say its important to get you started on the right foot so you can come out swinging properly in your first 2 events

When you swing with no ball there is nothing grabbing club, therefore face is where is should be hopefully,

Foam Balls tend to grab club if you come down on it, this will cause slowing down of club and might cause to open or close.

Real Ball, To much Turf hitting off heal will close the face or Toe will open face...

when you hit a ball Foam or Real you need to get close to Turf.. Don't get too Steep though make sure you finish swing at the top this will ensure club head continues to close up threw the swing...

Something to think about, and oh yea don't forget about the correct tape.... lol

Just to post an update, I've changed the club type and done my correct club offsets and calibrated each club. Results with and without balls:

          6 Iron shot without ball

          1 - Square
          2 - Closed 0.3
          3 - Closed 1.2
          4 - Open 0.8
          5 - Closed 1.2

          6 Iron shot with ball

          1 - Closed 0.5
          2 - Closed 11.5
          3 - Closed 10.7
          4 - Closed 12.2
          5 - Closed 11.9

As you can see very different results. I have noticed that sometimes with a ball, the feedback can be what I believe is correct, for example shot 1 with a ball was around what I would normally expect. But then most of the time the results are showing the clubface extremely closed.

Surely this cannot be light or in fact club settings or why would optishot read the correct club face without the ball?

Any help would be amazing, thanks guys

Sounds like your hitting off Heal, and face is closing.... No ball no contact with turf, you could always Trim your turf by the Heal, so it doesn't grab your club

It's only a foam ball so wouldn't expect that much kick and its not something I do out on the course, I slice but very rare do I hook which is the feedback given.

              Very strange...

It doesn't feel like it is, feels like nice shots to be honest but what you say makes sense.

Not sure how to try and tackle this one really

Try Plastic balls, same as foam really, no resistance to either one

My big miss was always a big hook before I taped up my clubs. Now it's almost non existent. I didn't believe that was the issue initially. Once I finally broke down and bought som white duct tape all was fixed.

For sure. I just really believed I was getting correct readings before I taped. It's worth trying in my mind.

Remember when I told you I always just used my 3 wood with no ball? That was because I could halfway control it. Put a ball in the mix and it was all over the place. Mostly the big hook. Once I taped the 3 wood up it was all good.

Try adjusting your offsets and calibrating with a ball ?

                          Cheers
