Optishot & Divots

Newbie here.. I am tending towards getting into the Sim world and am warming up to the Optishot. The only times I have been on golf kits have been either GC2-HMT, Trackman et al i.e. more ball tracking type of devices. Having looked at the Optishot, i realise it has row of LEDs around the ball. Having never been on the Optishot, my question is around divots. If your golf swing is a 'digging' style and you are prone to take divots, then wont you smash one of the LED banks? Or can you play only off the tee while using the Optishot. Apologies if this has already been covered or sounds like Optishot 101.

Optishot comes with a very thin mat and if you are a digger, it's going to hurt. If you go with one, i would suggest getting a jagman joe/slickthings cover for it. It is a lot thicker and easier to hit off of. Also, the led's are quite recessed in the unit. It does have a tee to hit off of as well.

I have had an Optishot for a few years and I've had friends that are "diggers" and we've found that a thicker mat really helps. Also with the standard mat I have found that if you use the Optishot a lot and then go to the course and play I tend to hit a lot of topped shots or thin shots until you get get use to swinging on real grass. After using a thicker mat on the Optishot I didn't have any problems when going from the simulator to the course.

Ahhhh.. that's where that comes from, thanks... I've been playing in sim at a local bar lately, and every time I go the course, I'm topping things like crazy, even drivers... Seems it finally corrected itself after about 3-4 rounds of real golf, but quite a pain. Now I know if I build out my own sim I can get a thicker mat and not have that issue (fingers crossed)!

A little late adding to this to say the least but, in my opinion, if you are using a stance mat that is thick - not what you are hitting off but standing on, it is quite possible that your feet are sinking down. Accordingly, your body compensates for the feet being lower. Then when on the golf course, your feet do not normally sink in so it is easy to end up with topped or thin shots. That is why I always suggest covering the stance mat/platform with a stable material where your feet do not sink in and just have it high enough to recess the Optishot with a thicker turf for it only. Also, always remember it is easier to have the stance platform too high and just shim up the Optishot or any other simulator hitting turf to the desired equal height. Just my two cents worth.
