Been using my basement simfor a year now. Due to many amatuers and cold drinks, as you can see, she's taken a beating by those accustomed to taking large divots. Any suggestions on how to improve the area aft of the sensor pad?

Maybe modify the section directly in front of the sensor to pad to have a square drop in. Then you can rotate the square piece as it wears out. Once you get 4 worn out spots, replace the top surface and start over. Looks like you'd need a new sensor pad though. You could also raise the unit by 3/4" and where you stand by that amount so you'd really have to be hitting down in order to hit the surface directly in front.Comment

I personally would stop letting people who hit 6 inches behind the ball play on my SIM.
Move the ball forward on the turf top. The after market turf top will be able to take more of this than your thin stance mat will.Comment

Divots are supposed to occur AFTER hitting the ball but amateurs usually release the club early and smack the ground behind the ball first causing those wear patterns unless you design the turf differently.
I see two issues. First is the thin mat. The aftermarket mat will take the beating better. And second is the edge on the aftermarket turf tearing away. Extending the aftermarket turf at least a foot behind the sensor pad as a single piece will probably solve both. This will take the beating and won't tear since there is no edge for the club to hang up on. My monster tee turf is still working after many years (just a slight beat down look in that area but no wear or holes). It extends about a foot past the pad.
AllTurfMats make some Optishot mats for $20 that seem to have a bigger extension than yours so maybe you can swap one of those in and see if they last longer. I've never used them so can't say if they are any good though. Either that or get a 10x24" CCE strip and make your own. I've used those and they are good quality.Comment

Madspeed, for clarification, which direction are you hitting the ball compared to the picture. I just assumed (incorrectly it appears) that the damage was behind the ball but I suppose it makes sense that the photo shows the direction of the swing.
If that is the case: 1. Move the ball back some so the downward blow happens on the turf top and not the edge of the sensor or your stance mat 2. Get a new turf top that extends out past the sensor the same as it does in the back. This way you can just cut out the damaged portion of the stance mat and everything is good to go. You can see mine is the same on both sides.Comment
