I have a rangefinder but have been thinking about an app for the phone to replace it. Golflogix seems to do what I want it to do..... Anyone using it? Thoughts? Or is there something else that is better. It doesn't have to be free as I don't mind paying a few bucks for something that is good. Swing by Swing looks pretty good to me.

i got a refurbished pebble watch for cheap and use the free game golf app and really like it. it gives distance to the green, front, middle and back, and you can track your shots and keep score all directly on the watch. it does not do distance to hazards so you do have to pull out the phone occasionally and also for lay up yardages. being able to review your round on the website afterwards is also nice.Comment

if you want free I suggest game golf...if you spend 350 you can get shot tracking and watch combo from skygolf. I have this and love the stats. Just tap your club to the watch before each shot. The watch is also provides distance, etc. called the Linux gt score tracking edition.Comment

I'd never give up my rangefinder.
Distance to the pin (not to the middle of the green, or guessing by moving a pin around on a phone app), down below 1' accuracy is invaluable.
Not to mention GPS, unless in a somewhat clear area, on a non-overcast day, can be +/- 5-10 yards. That doesn't give me a huge amount of confidence when my ball striking is already +/- 5-10 yards.
GPS apps are awesome for hole layout and weird holes with blind shots..etc., as rangefinder's obviously need line of sight. But I wouldn't ever give up my rangefinder.
Are GPS app now allowable in tournament golf? I feel like the USGA just changed the rules to allow them...Comment

My buddy was using a handheld GPS and it seemed pretty comparable to my range finder. Swingxswing has elevation added in which my RF does not. Interesting thing about overcast days..... I will be keeping the rangefinder regardless. I have a Nikon coolshot 20 and sometimes it won't register over 300 yards. I clean the lens and try to pick up a garbage can back at the tee.....but many times it won't show yardages over 290-300. With the GPS app, I would have a better idea of my drive averages. I am going to try SwingxSwing first. Thanks to everyone for your comments.Comment

My skycaddie was always within 2yds when compared to a laser. I now have both laser and gps and use both. My Skycaddie died and I now have a garmin so I'll have to check that one to see how accurate it is.Comment

I use golflogix and like it. $20/yr. also have a rangefinder and use it the most unless on a course I'm unfamiliar with. Tracking stats, handicap, and club distance is where Golflogix shines imo and mainly why I keep it. It's very accurate most of the time unless the overlay of the course is off then it's useless all day. That's very rare.Comment

x2 for golflogix. I upgraded to the champion package also, and really like it. I mainly use it for club tracking. Its interesting to see the differences between the course and hitting off a matt in the garage. I am consistently 10 yards shorter on the course than the garage.Comment
